My dog is repeatedly puking. What should I do to stop her vomiting?

Vomiting could be caused by a number of things, including parasites, diet changes, toxin ingestion, infectious viral diseases, blockage in the intestines caused by ingestion of a foreign body, food sensitivity/allergy, decreased pancreatic function, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. Please have your dog seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible to allow for diagnosis and treatment. If she ate something she shouldn't have such as a piece of a toy, then it could become lodged in her stomach or intestines. This is an emergency. Oh my! This sounds like she may have a diaphragmatic hernia due to trauma from the car. A diaphragmatic hernia is common to occur after a hit by car. The stomach and abdominal organs are pushed up into the chest cavity, causing breathing difficulty in many cases and problems keeping down food. Other possible causes of her continuous vomiting is stomach bloat and an intestinal blockage (intussusception). These are all quite serious conditions that are considered medical emergencies. There isn't much you can do for any of these possible scenarios at home unfortunately. She needs radiographs done right away to diagnose the problem and then proper treatment. Hello, and thank you for your question. Frequent vomiting is definitely a concern, and I would be worried about a possible foreign body causing obstruction. Other possibilities include food sensitivity/allergy, gut parasites, or infection. I would recommend taking Miley back to the vet within the next 12 hours if she is continuing to vomit during this time. They may recommend performing an x-ray to rule out the possibility of an obstruction. At minimum, they can prescribe medication to help settle her tummy and prevent nausea. In the meantime, if you recently offered any new diet or treats, discontinue them and try going back to her old diet. Your vet may also recommend a diet formulated for sensitive stomachs. I'm sorry to hear that Chalula has been vomiting so frequently. This is not normal and she will need to be seen by her veterinarian. Depending on her examination findings, she may need laboratory work and abdominal x-rays. If the vomiting was solely due to motion sickness, I would have expected it to have stopped at this point, once she was out of the car. Vomiting can have a number of causes in dogs, both related to the GI tract (parasites, intestinal blockage, foreign objects in the stomach, bacterial or viral infections) as well as non GI-related (kidney or liver issues, pancreatitis, etc). The fact that she is now dry-heaving is especially concerning, as non-productive vomiting (i.e. retching repeatedly without bringing anything up) is a common sign of the very serious GI issue known as "bloat" or "GDV". In this condition, the stomach fills with air and/or food, and then flips around, essentially blocking the entry/exit points. I would take Hannah in for veterinary care immediately, first to rule out GDV and then to get definitive diagnosis and treatment for the vomiting.

Clearly, she feels pretty awful. She will absolutely be best off if you take her to a vet right away for anti-nausea meds. This way, he/she can take X-rays and make sure Pippa doesn't have a foreign body somewhere causing a blockage in her system that would require surgery to fix. If you wait, she needs to be getting better and better, feeling more spunky, and slowing way down with the vomiting, or I'd be very concerned.
