My dog threw up Doxycycline. Is it absorbed? When's the next dose?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 55 lbs
Spock was given Doxycycline at 6:45 am with food. We played a lot between then and 8:15 am. At 8:15 he threw up his food. Didn't see antibiotic. But the vet won't answer I left a message but I'm unsure what to do. I know it can make dogs nauseous. He's been fine on it otherwise. Do I wait until his next dose and should it have been dissolved already?

This medication must be given with food and water as well as can cause oesophageal inflammation.
I would suggest to wait until next dosage and I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days.
I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

It can make your dog a bit nauseous or may cause vomiting and/or diarrhea. It can be given with or without food, but giving it with food may decrease any side effects. Do not give it with any dairy products.

Doxycycline can be irritating to the stomach and intestines and can cause ulceration at normal or high doses. Vomiting and loose stool indicate that there is an adverse reaction to doxycycline and blood in the stool is very concerning. A dose of 35mg is almost 5x the necessary dose, so it's understandable that this could happen.
I recommend to not give anymore of the doxycycline and to take Chiyo to a vet for an evaluation and treatment soon. It's likely that he has an ulcer in his stomach and intestines. The vet will be able to better assess him and give some medication to help get him through this.

50mg of minocycline is within his dose for the antibiotic. You may see some stomach upset (vomiting or diarrhea) since he had both doxycycline and minocycline. As long as it is just stomach upset, you can try managing it at home. Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount if there is no vomiting. Feed bland until symptoms resolve and the stool is normal, then transition slowly to the regular diet.
Monitor for lethargy, persistent vomiting or diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.1Pet Parents found this answer helpful
