My dog vomited once but acts normal. When should I be concerned?

If he's only vomited once and seems to be returning to normal, I would just keep an eye on him. You can pick up his food and offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken to help settle any minor GI upset. If he doesn't return fully to normal after another day or so, or if his symptoms return or worsen, having a vet take a look in person is best.

If not, there is the potential for one to become lodged in his intestines. This would make him very ill. Signs of this include vomiting, lethargy and a decreased appetite. If this occurs, you will need to find a veterinarian for him. In the meantime, offer him some water . Wait several hours as he just vomited and then you can offer a small amount of his food. If Toby has only thrown up 1 maybe 2 times but is still eating,drinking and playing normally I would continue to monitor his behavior . If at anytime he starts vomiting more, acting lethargic, having diarrhea or not eating I would recommend taking him to a vet as soon as possible. It is possible that Toby ate something he should not or even had a mild upset stomach that caused him to get sick. IF he is acting normally but continues to occasionally vomit I would recommend switching his dog food because sometimes vomiting can be secondary to a food allergy. I hope that helps

I would not be overly worried about a single episode of vomiting but I cannot make this call for you. You know your dog best so if you are worried then you should take her in now for an exam. If you want to just watch her for a few hours you can. I would not wait days though. If you monitor her for a few hours and the vomiting continues or she starts with other symptoms (diarrhea, not eating, etc) then she should definitely see a vet.

It can be normal for dogs to vomit occasionally. You should be concerned if your dog continues to vomit and can't stop. You should also watch for other symptoms like diarrhea. If your dog continues to decline, I would suggest a Vet asap. However, if this was a one time thing and your dog seems fine, it could just be that your dog had an upset tummy, or was too active and just vomited. It happens!
