My dog vomited antler chips. Should I feed him? What to watch for?

Poor Milo! If he is otherwise acting normal then you could withhold food for the day and see if the vomiting resolves. If so, then you could try a small amount of a bland diet, boiled chicken and white rice, this afternoon. Continue feeding the bland diet for a few days and the gradually transition back to his regular food. If the vomiting continues and/or he becomes lethargic then he needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can take an x-ray, if needed, and then prescribe medications to help control the vomiting and make him feel better.

The little pieces of this chew probably upset her stomach. . withhold food for 12 hours then offer Nettle boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if she is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put her back gradually on her normal food. If she continues vomiting or is not eating, take her to the vet to get treatment.

I would watch him for now and if he begins to develop symptoms such as vomiting, inappetance, lethargy, abdominal pain, etc. then I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him. I would also recommend having abdominal x-rays performed to see where the bone is. I hope this helps! Depending on the size of the piece ingested, it may cause problems for Wrigley. A small piece may pass on it's own. A larger piece may cause a gastric or intestinal obstruction. If there are sharp edges, it is possible it could cause a perforation. To be safe, Wrigley should be physically examined by your veterinarian. Abdominal x-rays should be done to locate the position of the antler. If it is still in the stomach, consider endoscopy to remove it safely. If you choose to monitor him at home, a bulky diet can be fed to both cushion and push the piece through the GI tract. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or straining to defecate. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

Unfortunately vomiting right after eating or drinking is often a sign of a foreign body obstruction. It is possible that Gunter ate a piece of a bone/rib etc. that has become lodged in his gastrointestinal tract. As this can be a life threatening condition, it is recommended to have him examined by a veterinarian and to have abdominal x-rays taken ASAP. Unfortunately, if X-rays do show a foreign body obstruction, surgical removal is usually the only solution. If no foreign body obstruction is noted on x-rays, your vet may give Gunter an injection of an anti-nausea medication called cerenia, give him SQ fluids for hydration (and which will help if he has pancreatitis from eating the deer or table food), as well as start him on either a prescription intestinal diet or recommend boiled rice and chicken for the next 3 days. I'd keep an eye on Remington for now. Given that he's pretty much acting normally, except for the vomiting, it's not something I would be too worried about at this point in time. Now if he keeps vomiting, has diarrhea, stops pooping, is very lethargic, or has a loss of appetite, then I would be worried and rush him into a vet immediately. Hopefully, however, the nylabone will be broken down by his stomach acid and pass without issue. I hope this helps!
