My dog threw up antler pieces and yellow bile. What should I do?

Hi. I bought a deer antler from our pet store for my one year old chihuahua. I gave it to him yesterday and he was knowing on it for about 2 hours. At 5.30 this morning he woke up being sick, yellow frothy bile. Since that time he has thrown up a further 4 times all containing yellow bile, but the last two occasions there was a piece of the antler in there too. What should I do?

It is hard to tell based on limited information how to help guide you with Milo. If Milo is only vomiting 1 time a day but is still eating, drinking, using the restroom, and acting like his normal self you could try a bland diet for a few days. The bland diet is easy to digest and might help stop the vomiting. You could try boiled chicken and white rice to start with. However, if this does not help or Milo does start to vomit more often, have diarrhea or start acting like he does not feel well I would recommend taking him to a vet for a more detailed exam.

Poor Milo! It could be he is feeling a bit nauseous. I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. It sounds like Milo is still nauseous. Common causes of vomiting in a puppy include dietary intolerance or indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection, IBD, pancreatitis, among others. You can remove food and offer small amounts of water every hour for the next 12 hours. Then offer small amounts of his normal food, or boiled chicken breast and cooked white rice. If the vomiting continues or other symptoms develop, you should call your vet for further advice.
