My dog vomited a hairball-like mass and is lethargic. ER vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 2 days old | 85 lbs

My dog just threw up a bile covered formed mass, it looked similar to a hair ball. He seems mildly lethargic but in no obvious distress and was able to go back to sleep, I cannot tell if his abdomen is tender or bloated. I’m wondering if he can wait for my vet to open (in 4hrs) or if I should take him to the emergency vet. he is a 6month old Great Dane/mastiff mix

As long as Finn isn’t continuing to vomit (or attempting to vomit) I think you can wait until your vet opens in a few hours. Since he vomited an actual object up I do think it would be a good idea to see the vet for an exam and an x-ray even if he seems to be feeling better in a few hours.
