My dog vomited, then fell with paws up. Was it choking or collapse?

Dogs can collapse and faint because of vomiting. This is a reflex when vomiting process is stimulating a nerve that slows down the heart rate and dogs may faint as a result of that. The recovery is usually rapid and the dog is back on the feet within seconds. If that what has happened to Aries, you can monitor him at home for the next 15-30 min. If it was only the reflex, he should be back to normal by now. If he is still staggering or looking confused please take him to your local vets as an emergency. Vomiting and balance problem can be related to ear infections, intoxication or even neurological diseases.

Please don’t feel guilty. Choking is a possibility but usually you see gagging and retching and the struggle and fight to catch air. If he was breathing for that king I doubt it was choke. I would be suspicious of the force of vomiting leading to a clot from the trauma as the cause of death which is not preventable

Poor Bella. She may have been trying to hard to throw up that she lost strength and simply collapsed. It could mean nothing, just a reaction to trying to vomit. If this keeps happening, then I would have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

Sounds like he may have lost his footing and then knocked himself cold (similar to when athletes get the wind knocked out of them after being hit) . Or he may have even had a brief episode of syncope (brief passing out episode due to an underlying heart condition). A silent seizure is also a possibility here. I would monitor him for now if he seems to have fully recovered and record any future events so that you can show your vet and get clarification on what may have caused this. There are any number of medical reasons that might explain this, but the most likely would be a seizure (not all are classic grand mal), or a heart issue. The best way to determine the cause is to let your veterinarian do a full exam & blood work to rule out any metabolic or otherwise obvious reasons for the episode. Hello, sorry to hear about Fuzzy. It sounds like she may have had a seizure and may be continuing to have mild forms of seizures. If Fuzzy continues to have these signs, she should be seen by a veterinarian as she may need to have medications and diagnostics to determine why she is suddenly having these events. I'm wondering if Jax may have had a vasovagal episode after vomiting. This is a reflex that sometimes occurs after vomiting and results in a low heart rate and low blood pressure, and sometimes even collapse. While it is not necessarily a sign of something more serious if the vomiting continues or another episode occurs I would recommend seeing your veterinarian so they can make sure something more serious isn't going on - low blood sugar, ingestion of a toxin, or even liver disease could also cause similar symptoms.
