My dog threw up a blue ball and black substance. Should I worry?

My concern is that Axel has ingested a foreign object ( ball ) that could be potentially causing an obstruction. I hope this is not the case, he could have just some gastritis from the inflammation caused by the ball pieces. However, the presence of a potential foreign object in his tummy needs to be ruled out via a check up and x rays or other imaging, as it can be life threatening. Furthermore the vomiting will persist until the primary cause is addressed. While you search for a vet that can see Axel , offer him small amounts of water frequently , try not to let him drink a lot of water in one go as this will increase the chances of him being sick.

I know this is a very worrying time for you, but you did completely the right thing in taking the dog to the vet so quickly. If you had him vomit within 40 minutes then the majority of the gastric contents and the noxious substance will have come up. Sometimes I would also administer activated charcoal but it isn't strictly necessary when they vomit a good lot up. The medication that the vet gave you will help to line the stomach in case the substance has damaged the lining, the other medication is a liver support as it deals with a lot of potentially toxic substances. There really isn't much more you can do aside from being vigilant. If you knew exactly what the dog ingested sometimes other drugs can be administered such as vitamin k in rat poisoning. However your dog should be absolutely fine considering how quick you acted. Hopefully Blue has vomited up all the material that he ingested. Unfortunately at this stage if there is anymore it has likely already passed into the gut. If so it may pass through without problem especially if the scraps are small. Over the next few days you need to be really vigilant, if it gets stuck in the gut signs you will be looking for are depression, pain, vomit and diarrhoea, not wanting to eat. Go to the vet right away if you suspect any of these.

It sounds as Walter is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Lola may have been eating grass as well if she had an upset stomach, and that could cause the color of the vomit. Keep an eye on her for now, and if she vomits again, have her seen by a vet. This can be caused by multiple reasons but it is a condition that needs treatment quickly. Some diagnostics that your veterinarian might suggest would be blood work to look for blood loss, kidney disease, and other causes. Sometimes endoscopy, ultrasound or surgery may be recommended to help find the cause and remove it if possible. Sometimes stomach protectant medications and special foods may be used to help him feel better. I would recommend that you call your veterinarian for a follow up examination.
