What safety steps does your vet take for pets with infectious disease?

It would be preferable not to leave the clinic in scrubs (not just parvo but it is possible to carry many diseases and parasites on clothing). Spraying scrubs would be effective as long as they were wet through, I would generally soak clothing if it was visibly soiled (aprons, shoe covers and disposable gloves should be used as a precaution to limit spreading infections outside of an isolation area)

With such severe clinical signs and a low blood cont, hospital treatment is the only option. Clinics are used to treating infectious disease cases and all kennels/cages shoul be secre and safe with no leaks between patients and barrier nursing (changing gloves/washing and disinfecting all equipment) between patients to protect each of them from spreading diseases further. He should remain on an iv until he is voluntarily taking enough food/liquids to maintain his own hydration

Luckily since Princess is an adult dog and has been vaccinated it's unlikely she would get sick. You've done a good job with cleaning also so it is safe for her to go into your room again. No, it is not necessarily safe to go home and handle your animals if you were handling the one infected with Parvo. For instance, in a hospital setting, Parvo infected animals are kept completely isolated from the others and anyone that is handling them has to wear special bioprotective gear to prevent spread of disease. I would recommend that you change out of anything you were wearing that could have come in contact with the dog or the dog's belongings, and clean yourself off thoroughly with a bleach product. The Parvo virus will not be killed by regular antibacterial soap, which is the reason that bleach is the best thing to use in the absence of a veterinary cleaner which the average person does not possess in their home. There is no evidence of pets being able to transfer the virus to human via pets becoming infected themselves or via acting as a fomite (meaning the virus gets on their fur and then you pet them and catch it, you can read more at https://www.avma.org/sites/default/files/2020-03/covid-19-faq-pet-owners_031520.pdf). The virus lives better on solid smooth surfaces like doorknobs, and doesn't stay well on softer porous surfaces like fur. I think your plan sounds like a good one. You could also ask your friend to wear a mask while grooming the dog and wash her hands prior to seeing him, which should decrease chances of possible from her being passed to your pup via respiratory droplets. If your dog will also be wearing a collar while she sees him, you could also wipe down the collar with disinfecting wipes. Best of luck during these difficult times!

I would keep them separate for now and wash your hands after handling each dog. She needs to rest as stress may make her worse. I’m not sure what type of sickness she has but contact them tomorrow and they should be able to get medication for you to give her at home. She will heal more quickly at your house than in a shelter environment. If your dog is healthy and vaccinated it should be able to fight off any infection the new dog may have. A wide variety of disinfects will deactivate the common viruses repressible for upper respiratory illness in cats as will steam cleaning. Lysol or clorox products or a diluted bleach solution can do the trick. I hope this helps and best of luck
