My 15-year-old King Charles Spaniel has UTI symptoms and won't eat.

The most common cause for a pet not to eat their food is illness. If she ate her non-urinary diet well before and now she suddenly won't eat it, that's suspicious. I recommend to call your veterinarian and have her examined. It also sounds like she needs to eat the urinary diet for her health. These diets often come in canned and dried formula. You may also try switching the brand of urinary food. I hope this helps and they figure it out quickly.

This is very alarming. Since yourBelle is not spayed, there is a chance that she has a uterine infection, and the discharge from her vagina could be a sign. All the signs you describe do point to a problem with her uterus. Please make an appointment with your vet for an exam befor the weekend.

Hi. I am sorry Thor has a UTI and had an infection. I am glad he is responding better to the next round of meds. His appetite and attitude can be affected by the antibitoics. It can be very difficult to give oral medications. A helpful strategy for administering medication to pets is using foods that are highly appealing. things like butter, peanut butter, cream cheese, deli meats (e.g., salami, liverwurst), and spreadable cheese or cheese in a can will help to hide medications. Commercial treats called pill pocets can be molded around a pill are available in a variety of flavors and are even formulated for pets with food allergies. It is important to disguise the pill in a small amount of tempting food so it will not be too bulky and require chewing. In many instances, even using delectable treats does not guarantee success. Keep trying. Another ruse that is particularly helpful when it comes to food-motivated pets is to offer a primer treat, then the disguised pill followed by a “chaser” treat. Making a fuss to build excitement over the impending treat is helpful in assuring the hidden pill will be ingested. I would not say this is serious per say, but UTI can cause problems untreated. If there is still blood, I recommend having your veterinarian take an x-ray of the bladder to make sure there are no stones in the bladder.

Poor girl. This is concerning that she not only has a UTI but that the bacteria has now entered her bloodstream (sepsis) and is making her ill. Yes your vet will have to see her to get her urine tested first and then prescribe antibiotics to hopefully get her feeling better soon. You cannot get antibiotics prescirbed for your pet without first completing a physical exam. Other possible causes for this include: diabetes, cushing's disease aor even cancer unfortunately. Poor Kiwi! Keep an eye on her for now, offer her canned food with water added to flush her bladder in case she has another uti. If she is still acting this way in the morning, I'd be concerned and have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps.

Poor girl. She may have a urinary tract infection that has been going on for a while so now it is making her ill. Other possible causes of general illness in an older pet are: a closed pyometra (spontaneous infected uterus), or organ malfunction (liver, kidneys, etc). I would highly recommend taking her in to your vet right away for testing (urinalysis +/- bloodwork), to determine what the underlying problem is so that we know how best to treat her. Until you can get her seen you can try feeding her small amounts of boiled plain chicken and rice or slightly warmed cans of baby food to provide her some nutrition.
