My dog had a UTI, now has accidents and won't eat. Should I worry?

If that was the cause then she should start getting better in the next day or so. If no improvement, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck! If she's completely refusing food and water and it's been more than a day, I would try to get her into your vet sooner or into the ER. You can check to see how dehydrated Aurora is by gently pinching and tenting the skin over her neck. If it seems "sticky" or is very slow to return back to normal, this is a sign of dehydration. If she's dehydrated in addition to her other symptoms and also is suffering from underlying health issues, I would have her seen right away.

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I am more concerned about the fact that she is not eating well and that needs to be further addressed as it is unlikely to be due to a urinary tract infection. I recommend that you have Luchadora reevaluated by your veterinarian on Saturday for further assessment and treatment. Keep in mind that if she is not feeling well, they may not proceed with vaccines that day. You may take in a urine sample that day. Poor girl. This is concerning that she not only has a UTI but that the bacteria has now entered her bloodstream (sepsis) and is making her ill. Yes your vet will have to see her to get her urine tested first and then prescribe antibiotics to hopefully get her feeling better soon. You cannot get antibiotics prescirbed for your pet without first completing a physical exam. Other possible causes for this include: diabetes, cushing's disease aor even cancer unfortunately. It is best to get Marley checked out right away. I do hope that Marley starts to feel better soon! Best of luck and take care.

This does need to be checked out by a vet; however, if she is no longer vomiting, is still eating and drinking, does not have diarrhea, and isn't lethargic, then it's fine to wait until your regular vet is back on. Should she keep vomiting, stops eating, has diarrhea, or is very lethargic, then I would have her seen by a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

Hi Chrissy! I'm sorry Dexter has a UTI! It can take at least 48 hours to see improvements in signs from a UTI, so it could be that he's peeing in the hallway because he's still experiencing the urge to urinate right away. Keep in mind as well that he's only 10 weeks old. He will not even be closed to house trained at this age, so he's not being "naughty" by urinating in the hallway, he's simply not old enough to have bladder control. I would take him outside to urinate every hour, and keep an eye on him for now. Antibiotics can cause stomach upset, which may lead him to not eat as much, so try feeding him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If Dexter continues to have accidents in the home over the next couple of days despite you taking him out quite frequently, then I would have him seen by a vet again.

If she is still not eating then you should take her back to the vet for IV fluid therapy. And more diagnostics. Make sure they did bloodwork to check her kidneys. An abdominal X-Ray or ultrasound may help to diagnose the issue as well. If her kidney enzymes are elevated, that can make her nauseous and not want to eat. IV fluids will help to flush the kidneys. There are also special foods that can help with kidney issues like hills K/D food. If the kidney issue is for sure due to an infection, then hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon. Sometimes it’s good to give cephalexin with another antibiotic like Baytril if it is a severe infection.
