Do I have to use both Combo Guard and Simple Guard on my dog?

Yes, you can give both products at the same time and Charlie will likely do fine. If you want to be extra cautious, separate them by two days. Neither product had activity against ticks. If ticks are a concern where you live, you can switch the products to something like Simparica for fleas and ticks and the Interceptor for heartworms and intestinal worms. While there's technically no reason that these two medications can't be used together, they are both heartworm preventatives - so there's quite a bit over overlap in what they do, and both should not be needed at the same time. If your pup is currently on Interceptor and you want to add a second medication to cover fleas, I would recommend using something like Nexgard or Bravecto - these are flea/tick meds only, so you wouldn't be treating her unnecessarily for heartworms with two different meds.

Fortunately, there are a number of heartworm preventatives similar to Heartgard, including TriHeart Plus and Iverhart. Other options for heartworm prevention have different active ingredients and include Trifexis, Interceptor, Sentinel, Revolution, and Advantage Multi. Simba's vet will be able to prescribe another option and make sure that Simba has had a recent heartworm test.
