Why does my dog's urine and stool smell so bad, even after vet check?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Drake and Pierce! The slimy poop can indicate diarrhea and mucous can make it look slimy. Mucous can indicate inflammation in the colon. Causes of diarrhea in both dogs likely indicated a viral or bacterial infection or they both ate something that is disagreeing with them like a new food, treat or table food or they got in to something. Diarrhea can cause a poor appetite if they don't feel well. If they are having a lot of bowel movements you can consider fasting them for 12-24 hours to rest the GI tract. Then restart feeding as a bland diet of boiled chicken or beef with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. If Drake continues to not eat well, or stops eating he should be seen by your Vet. As for Drakes' urine smell-It could smell stronger because it is more concentrated due to dehydration or he could have an infection. I feel sometimes intact male dog urine smells stronger. You can try to collect a urine sample and see if your Vet will check it for infection. I hope this helps and I wish both Drake and Pierce a speedy recovery!

Sometimes normal excretions from the anal glands can smell fishy and this could be what is making Cheese’s stool smell. If Cheese continues to urinate inappropriately I would recommend seeing a veterinarian to make sure she doesn’t have a urinary tract infection or other lower urinary tract disease.

Fortunately, a foul smell does not necessarily indicate that something is wrong with your pup. It may be abnormal for us, but pending a dog's diet, the bacteria in their bowels, and how hydrated they are can make a big difference on the smell. Also, when they defecate, they can release their anal glands which has a very distinct fishy/foul smell. Otherwise, I would just continue to monitor her. If she is fine and behaving normally, I don't think this is an emergency. You can also submit a fecal sample to your vet to rule out parasites.

This may be in the skin per se or possibly in the anal sac region. I would recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Lucy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Different odors have different causes. A foul odor may indicate a bacterial infection. A yeast infection sometimes smells like Fritos. A fruity smell can indicate ketones created by diabetes. Dental disease also has a strong smell. Anal gland "juice" smells fishy. If you can't figure out where the odor is coming from, I would have Muffin examined by the vet.
