My dog has an ulcer. Is 0.6ml Carafate enough for a 62lb dog?

Carafate is not a typical medication that I use to treat diarrhea but I don't know your dogs complete medical history. Carafate is an antiulcer medication that coats ulcers in the digestive system and protects them from additional damage from stomach acid. Maybe your vet thinks that your dog also has ulcers. Typically, I treat diarrhea symptomatically with Metronidazole, Proviable KP, and a bland gastrointestinal diet. You could call your vet and ask why he/she is treating with carafate and if there are other medications that could be used, too. Also, ask your vet to check a stool sample for parasites.

If you think the sucralfate is making her feel sicker then you can chose to discontinue until you talk with your veterinarian tomorrow and discuss permanently discontinuing this medication. Yes you can, a one tablet slurry. I'm not sure it will help much but it won't hurt. Call your vet when you can and report the reaction. It would be best to switch her to a different antibiotic. Amoxi-Clav is notorious for causing GI upset. Hope this helps.

There are no drug interactions between omeprazole, carafate and carprofen however, don't give them all together. You would want to give the carprofen either 1 hour prior or 1 hour after giving the others. Carafate and Omeprazole given at the same time as carprofen will inhibit it's absorption. Hope this helps. Hello. The dose range for Ursodiol is 10-15 mg/kg every 12- 24 hours, depending on how severe the hepatobiliary disease is. This is equal to 68 - 102 mgs for a 15 pound dog. This medication has a wide range of safety, so 1/2 tablet will not be harmful to your pet. However, if Casper were to develop any adverse signs such as diarrhea, then the dose may need to be modified. Otherwise, do follow your veterinarians recommendation. Poor Bella! Based on the recommended dose of metacam for dogs (0.1-0.2 mg/kg every 24 hours) the dose you are giving should be fine for Bella's weight. Please monitor for any vomiting, diarrhea or malaise while on this medication and contact your prescribing vet if these occur. If there are no other complicating factors, in my experience corneal ulcers tend to heal within a week to ten days. However, it is very important to do your follow up check to ensure the ulcer is healing appropriately. You are correct - sucralfate is not a pain medication, it is a medication that coats the esophagus and stomach when there is concern for stomach ulceration, irritation or reflux. The published dose for Tylenol is 10 mg/kg or about 4.5 mg per pound, but it can affect the liver or cause problems if used with other drugs so I would recommend contacting your vet before giving this medication. There is nothing over the counter that I'd recommend - unfortunately if Miko wasn't prescribed any pain medication it might be safest to see an emergency vet for a safe pain medication if Miko is in significant pain.
