Why is my dog trying to vomit for days but nothing comes up now?

It sounds like Dove may be coughing instead of attempting to vomit since she was willing and able to eat a treat. Usually dogs who are nauseous are uninterested in food. A cough could be caused by a viral or bacterial infection like kennel cough, allergy related or due to heart disease or pneumonia. I’d recommend having your vet examine Dove to determine whether or not she might be coughing.

Sometimes a loud productive cough like kennel cough can look really similar to vomiting in dogs do that’s one possibility. Tessie also may have retched once due to nausea if she ate something that she shouldn’t. If it doesn’t happen again I wouldn’t worry about it. If she continues or if she begins to vomit or cough I’d recommend seeing your vet.

It sounds as Piper is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

It's quite serious when a dog attempts to throw up but nothing is coming out. That can be a sign of bloat, which is a life threatening emergency in dogs. I would take Copper into a vet immediately. When a dog has bloat, it can cause their stomach to twist on it's axis, and if he does have bloat, his stomach needs to be decompressed to prevent that from happening. Other signs of bloat include an enlarged abdomen, lethargy, labored breathing, and excessive drooling. To be safe, Copper should be taken into a vet right away.

If Autumn is attempting to vomit without producing anything I’d recommend seeing an emergency veterinarian right away. This can be a sign of gastric dilation and volvulus (GDV) also known as bloat which is a life threatening emergency. While it would be unusual for a dog as young as Autumn to develop GDV her breed is predisposed, and it would be safest to see a vet. They can take an x-ray which would diagnose the disease or look for an obstruction - if she doesn’t have this problem they can prescribe medication that could help with nausea.
