Can my dog eat a treat after medicine with an eating restriction?

It depends what type of pain killers she is taking, as it is every 8 hours i assume it is an opioid which is fine to give even on an empty stomach. antibiotics can also be given on an empty stomach, although not ideal as this can cause nausea. try giving her some boiled chicken, treats or a canned food called a/d from Hills.

If it is temporary (a week or less), its ok for your dog to eat primarily chicken breast or tuna. Try to feed her a little bit of rice mixed with it as well. If she needs to be on medication long term, it would be better to try to formulate a well balanced long term diet that she will eat. This question really depends on what medicaiton she is getting daily. Yes it is true that some pets take time to adjust but she should still be energetic and relatively normal otherwise. She also should be receptive to taking yummy irrresistible treats. I would recommend offering her some boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to see if you can coax her to eat a full meal. Once she eats you should be able to resume her medicaiton. Also please keep in mind that some medicaitons can cause lack of appetite as a side effect so it is important to have her re-evaluated by your local vet if she is having such a reaction. You want to make sure your pet eats first before giving antibiotics or it can cause an upset stomach, so it’s best tot give it after. It depends the medication Chubs is taking, as some medication must be given with food. Please post again with the name of the medication she is taking so I or another expert can advise you if she can take her medication without eating.

I am afraid, that is not ok, as giving food (treats) right after administering omeprazole is the same as giving food before administering it. If she likes ice cubes you can give her an ice cube to play with.

Thank you for your question regarding Snowball. Couple things that would be nice to know such as what is the medicine and how long are you suppose to give it orally. Not knowing that, giving the medicine with a small treat or food is generally fine as long as it doesn't contribute to more diarrhea.
