Can I give my pet treats after Omeprazole on an empty stomach?

I would probably go ahead and give the dose now - the timing usually isn't critical for this medication. If you are giving any other medications at the same time the recommendation might be different since omeprazole might change the absorption of some other medications.

The omeprazole should not interfere with the other meds. You can also do the following: Fast Jack for 12 hours and then put him on bland food for a day, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly. Should this not help or should Jack get lethargic, or get diarrhea or vomiting, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on

I'm so sorry to hear about Lusso. If she has a sensitive stomach, then I would try to give the Loxicam with a little food. Even a small amount of a treat or a bit of bread might be enough. If she generally does not have a problem with a sensitive stomach and Loxicam has never bothered her before, then you might be able to get away with giving it on an empty stomach, but I always recommend trying to get something into them around the same time as the medication to prevent other problems. If there is a particular time of day that she tends to eat better than others, you may also consider changing the time of day that you give the Loxicam, so it can be with some food. Good luck! Hi, There are no interactions between the two drugs and they are often given together as the omeprazole helps to protect the stomach from potential side effect that can damage the stomach and cause ulcer by steroids. The instruction to take them differ a bit, the omeprazole is to be taken on empty stomach preferably in the morning before the first meal and steroids are to be taken with food or after a meal (full stomach). Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Pepcid and Omeprazole can be given in the same day and are even safe to give together. It is also ok if he punctures the capsule, though he may not like the taste. You can try pill pockets or using canned food to give the pill in if he can tolerate that. I hope this helps!

While we do not typically recommend Tums for dogs, you can safely give him some Prilosec (omeprazole), to help reduce acid secretion in the stomach and help him feel better. Prilosec generally comes in 20 mg tablets, so he could receive 40 mg orally twice daily. If the clinical signs persist beyond a day or so after trying the Prilosec, I recommend that he be seen by your veterinarian again, as a more serious problem could be present. Omeprazole is a powerful antacid that blocks acid production in the stomach to protect the gastrointestinal tract against ulcers. However, in occasional cases, it can cause a loss of appetite, vomiting or diarrhea. There is a chance that Spock may be feeling nauseous due to the omeprazole and is not eating due to nausea. Unfortunately, since I have not personally examined Spock, I am legally unable to provide you with precise dosing instructions and must instruct you to follow your vet's prescription.
