Dog's recent tooth extraction site oozing: ER or wait for vet?

Oh goodness, that does not look great. It seems he broke down the stitches and there is debris in the excraction site. Hopefully it is just food and debris and not an infection. Do you have a syringe? Squirt gun? Anything you could make shift to use to “rinse” out the hole? A warm water rinse to the area to try to flush out the debris may make it look a lot better. It can wait for Monday, it's probably either an infection or a bad reaction to the suture material. if she is not on antibiotics already then she will probably need a short course of antibiotics for it to get better.

As long as she is not lethargic, this can wait until the wait opens, this might be a blood clotting condition that she is developing, there is a good chance that the dental will need to be canceled.

Hello, sorry to hear about Bella. It looks like the crown of her canine tooth broke off. Although she may have experienced some discomfort, it is also likely that Bella had underlying dental disease which caused her tooth to become weakened and thus break while playing. Therefore, its unlikely she is experiencing any additional discomfort now. If you see she does not want to eat, or has excessive salivation, or is pawing at her face, then you should could have more concerning discomfort. Bella should be evaluated, but it is something that can wait so that she may see her primary care veterinarian tomorrow for a dental appointment. You may feed her soft food until she is seen by her veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.

I would recommend seeking emergency veterinary care for at least pain control tonight if she is uncomfortable, lethargic, salivating a lot, whining or vomiting. If you think her signs are mild, then you can probably monitor her and see your normal vet in the morning. Good luck!

Poor Peanut! He definitely does need to have this checked out by a vet, since it sounds like he'll likely need to have the affected tooth extracted and the area checked to make sure he doesn't have a broken root still stuck in the tooth socket. But if he seems comfortable right now and isn't overly painful, it should be fine to wait until tomorrow and see your regular veterinarian rather than going to an ER tonight.

Hello. I am sorry for your concerns about Freyja. It does look like she has a tooth root abscess, most likely involving the 4th upper premolar. Antibiotics usually clears the infection very nicely, but often the tooth needs to be removed. As long as Freyja is eating well & is in no significant discomfort, you can wait to have her seen.
