My dog is very tired, not eating or drinking. Is this an emergency?

It is very concerning that Romo is suddenly lethargic, and now won't eat or drink as well as heavy panting. At his age, these signs could be symptomatic of a serious illness such as heart disease, systemic illness, or organ failure. Any breathing problems should be considered an emergency. Given his older age and the sudden onset of symptoms, the best thing to do is having him seen by a vet as soon as possible. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms and how best to treat him.

Hi there, I’m sorry Reynold isn’t feeling well. The symptoms you describe are pretty non- specific and can be attributed to many different problems. However, if he is acting uncomfortable, then I do think having him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible would be the safest situation. Hello, thank you for your question about Roscoe. Since Roscoe has been showing signs of improvement you could continue to monitor him throughout the day to see if his attitude improves. If by tomorrow he is still lethargic, in spite of an improvement in his appetite, I would still recommend having him evaluated by your veterinarian. Hope this helps, good luck!

There could be a couple of reasons why Rosco isn't eating. It could be he has a dental problem, systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury causing the lack of appetite. I think having him seen by a vet in the morning for a health check is the best idea. Best of luck.

It does sound like something isn't right, but unfortunately, these are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost anything - heart disease is certainly a possibility, especially if he has had any coughing or if you see him breathing hard at times, but he could also have a systemic illness like liver or kidney disease, or even a tumor or some type of cancer. As a temporary measure, you can try offering him something bland and tasty like plain boiled chicken and rice to eat - this may help stimulate his appetite a bit and should also help with the loose stool. But for any treatment that will really help, I'm afraid he really needs to see a vet. He will need some diagnostic testing (likely blood work and x-rays) to help diagnose the problem - depending on what is found, your vet can talk with you about his prognosis and treatment options to try and help him. You can see if there is a low-cost SPCA clinic in your area who might be able to help, or call around to local practices to see if they accept payment plans. Poor Clyde sounds so ill! He could have parvovirus, a severe GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, or could have a foreign body. I would consider his symptoms a medical emergency, and he needs to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Poor Logan. He sounds really sick and i am really worried he is getting dehydrated. There are so so many things that can causing the decrease drinking and lethargy like an infection, kidney or liver disease, a toxin, or even cancer and much more. Since he has been since for three days, I would strongly recommend to have your vet or a local emergency vet take a look at him. They will be able to run bloodwork and X-rays if needed to help determine why he isn’t feeling well. They will be able to get him on the appropriate meds to help him feel better. They will also be able to determine his hydration and give him fluids if needed. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better really soon.
