My sick dog throws up his meds. How can I get him to keep them down?

Also some medications, such as antibiotics, require a full meal to avoid causing stomach upset in your pet. In this scenario, I would highly recommend getting injectable medicines done for her at your local vet clinic, that way you can ensure she gets the medicine she needs. Discuss this option with your vet. I am unsure what your pet is being treated for, but if the situation is dire, then your pet may need to be hospitalized in order to give the injectable medications repeatedly. Poor Dough Boy! At this point, he should have an abdominal x-ray to make sure there isn't an obstruction, especially if the shot she gave him was an anti-vomiting injection and he is still vomiting. If the x-ray is negative than he should also have blood-work done to look for abnormalities as it is concerning that he is vomiting, lethargic, and losing weight. Besides, pushing the pill all the way back in his throat and holding his mouth closed until he swallows, there isn't much more you can do to administer an oral medication unless he would eat it in a treat. However, it sounds like he would just vomit the medicine back up. Please have the vet take a look at him again for a work-up. Hope he feels better soon!

Hi, I would recommend that Sandy is rechecked and that you explain to your vet the difficulties you are experiencing. What is causing this temperature ? It’s impossible and useless to give oral medications to a dog that is vomiting. Ask your vet where does he think the source of infection is. In the meantime offer Sandy small amounts of water little and often and keep in a cooler place. Hope this helps.
