Why does my dog keep vomiting after eating, even with meds?

I am very sorry to hear that Maggie is experiencing these problems, There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including pancreatistis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison, or even an gastrointestinal obstruction. It is also possible that Maggie is simply eating too much too fast. If the episodes continue over a 48 hour period, Maggie seems dull or depressed, in pain, ha sprifuse diarrhoea or vomiting, I would take her straight tot wh vet. Your vet will be able to perform a physical exam and run diagnostic tests such as bloodwork to determine the cause of Maggie's vomiting. In the meantime you can continue to monuitir her at home. Rest her stomach for a few hours. Then try smaller meals three times a day. Try a bland diet of boiled chicken breast and white rice for a few days and provide plenty of fresh water. Hi, sorry to hear your dog is having this problem. I would recommend an ultrasound to make sure he does not have Inflammatory bowel disorder or a foreign body that does not show up on x ray. Some foreign objects can migrate throughout the GI tract so they can sometimes cause problems and sometimes be fine. An infection would not cause this problem. The anti vomiting injection only lasts 24 hours so if he did not vomit on that, you can try oral tablet of it. But if he did vomit through the injection, it is more likely he has a foreign body. If your vet cannot do an abdominal ultrasound, I would go to a specialist who has an ultrasound and is good at them to find out what is wrong Good luck, I hope this helps!

Possible causes include gastric reflux, esophageal sphincter issues, a condition called megaeophagus, etc to name a few. Unfortunately there will be a need for further diagnostics before any conclusions can be made in a case like yours. Your first step will likely be x rays to rule out any anatomical issue (a tumor pressing on your esophagus, a megaesophagus, or structure), and will progress from there.

It sounds like she experiencing nausea so she may need an anti-nausea medication, like Cerenia, an antacid, and/or a gastrointestinal protectant to help treat. It might also help to put her on a hypoallergenic diet, like z/d or d/d. You could also add a probiotic to her diet and see if that helps. If it continues than you could take her to an internal medicine specialist for an endoscopy and intestinal biopsies to get a definitive diagnosis.

It's certainly possible for dogs to have a mild upset stomach for 12-24 hours after an anesthetic episode, but it would be unusual to see this three days later - especially with such severe symptoms. I would recommend having her rechecked by your veterinarian tomorrow morning, or going to the ER tonight if she seems overly distressed or lethargic. It's possible that she could have a stomach ulcer as a result of the Rimadyl (uncommon, but can happen occasionally even with appropriate dosing), or may have some other problem that may or may not be related to her surgery. It sounds like she needs an exam and likely some lab work +/- x-rays to help determine what's going on and see what kind of treatment is needed.

Poor girl. She may have a condition that is causing this such as megaesophagus. I am not sure if your vet has ran any tests yet, but I would recommend starting with thoracic radiographs and perhaps even a barium series will need to be done to detect a possible megaesophagus. Form there the vet will prescribe medication if this conditon is confirmed. The main concern with a pet that regurgitates is aspiration pneumonia. This is why they suggest to elevate the food bowl to allow gravity to help keep the food down. However most owners have to make a gruel (water mixed with food and then puréed) and also give pro-motility drugs (i.e. Metoclopramide) in addition to help manage this condition. Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about Pola's troubles. I have seem dogs vomit because of their stomach being empty for too long in between meals. Vomiting after eating however could more likely be a sign of something else. Maybe Pola's food no longer agrees with her or she's getting a sensitive stomach. Also, can you think of anything Pola may have gotten into? Dogs can get things stuck in the stomach that can cause partial blockages or even chronic irritation. I would make sure you are giving Pola her total amount of food split into 2-3 meals every 8-12 hours. Also important is if Pola has started eating faster because shes being given less food to eat. Eating too fast would make her throw up too. She may need to eat from a treat dispensing ball or something like a pickle pocket to make sure she's eating slowly. If this doesn't go away in another 5 days or so I'd have her evaluated by her veterinarian. They can help you streamline her diet and also make sure she doesn't have anything else going on.
