My dog ate a bug and is puking. What can I do for his upset stomach?

I'm sorry to hear that Buster isn't feeling well! Vomiting and diarrhea can occur as a result of a virus, parasites, stomach upset from eating different foods or treats, among other health conditions. If he is acting normally and still able to keep water down, you can try monitoring him at home first by withholding food for 12-24 hours. After that time, offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days, then gradually transition back to his normal diet over another 5-7 days. However, if Buster's vomiting or diarrhea worsen, or if he becomes lethargic and stops drinking, a trip to the vet will be in order to assure that he has not become dehydrated and to get to the bottom of the problem. Since last night was Halloween, think about if there's anything she could have eaten that she shouldn't have and take her to the vet ASAP if you realize your chocolate stash or your entire pan of bacon wrapped something or anothers from the potluck is missing. If you can't think of anything she ate, it's generally ok to wait 24 hours to see if she get back on her food naturally. Sometimes something goes wrong in the gut and we don't know why but it resolves quickly. If she's not back to normal in 24 hours, or has any vomiting or diarrhea in the mean time, she needs to go to her vet for evaluation and supportive care. If Buddy seems off and is whimpering and vomiting, he may have something going on causing him discomfort. Because of his age, I would be suspicious of a viral infection, something he ate that he is having an indiscretion to or a foreign object he ate that is lodged somewhere in his intestines causing problems. Because there are multiple causes and it is difficult to determine what it is for sure, I would have a veterinarian examine Buddy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would maybe advise trying to feed Frank a very small amount of food and see if that doesn't settle his stomach. The slug is probably causing the nausea and vomiting because I'm assuming Frank was fine before this exposure. If the vomiting doesn't resolve, I would advise that you call your local emergency vet hospital and discuss the case with them. I would hope that with a little food on his stomach, things would settle for him but only time will tell. Good luck with Frank.

It may be he has a stomach illness, but given that he has only thrown up twice, Id keep an eye on him for now. Continue to offer him rice, and add in some boiled white meat chicken (no bones and no skin). If he is still hasn't eaten by the morning, keeps vomiting, has diarrhea, or becomes very lethargic, then I would take him into the vet. I hope this helps!

A cough be due to numerous causes, these include infections (viral, bacterial, fungal, protozoal), inhaled irritants/chemicals, heart problems, primary inflammation (bronchitis), allergies, and even cancer, amongst others. There is no way you can treat a cough at home. The vomiting could be induced after the coughing episodes or there could be something causing the vomiting such as gastroenteritis or other GI or non GI causes. IN a big dog such as Buddy, something to worry about would with noproductive wretching and 'vomiting' would be Gastric DIlatation and Volvulus (GDV). That is where the stomach flips upon itself and fills with gas and fluid. This is a surgical emergency and could be fatal if not rapidly diagnosed and treated. You should bring Buddy to a veterinarian for evaluation.

Chronic vomiting in dogs is pretty concerning and can be caused by gastritis, ulcers, foreign body obstructions, pancreatitis, and intestinal parasites. Other internal issues, for example kidney or liver disease, can make dogs nauseous as well. Sometimes, dogs will vomit yellowish liquid if they re extremely hungry and anticipating their meal. You can try feeding Urban a little later at night to see if this helps (this only applies if he eats meals rather than picking throughout the day).
