Dog throwing up clear liquid and tired. When should I worry?

Be sure that you know if she is vomiting (belly goes in and out) versus regurgitation (burps up fluid) versus a cough with a terminal retch (cough is first followed by a gag of fluid). I don't know how old Honey is but she only weighs 5 lbs and that means if she is truly vomiting then she could get dehydrated quickly. If the vomiting is non-stop she should be taken to your Vet if open or an emergency hospital. If it has been a couple of times remove all water and food. Do not offer water for 4-6 hours of no vomiting and offer small amounts and ice chips. Do not offer food until 12-24 hours of no vomiting and offer it as a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day as small frequent meals. If she continues to vomit while fasted or once she starts eating she needs to see a Vet. Causes of vomiting are: intestinal parasites, foreign body (something is stuck and needs surgery to remove), dietary indiscretion, viral or bacterial infections, metabolic conditions, toxin ingestion, food allergy or intolerance. Poor Gotti sounds very sick at the moment. When a dog his age has been vomiting for 24 hours and can't keep anything down, he has to see a vet immediately. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check her hydration status and give her medications to make her feel better. Good luck!

No, the questions aren’t linked. I will usually be okay with an upset tummy for 24 hours, so if it’s been longer than that, Quintana should probably see the vet. The green means that her stomach is empty and she is starting to pull fluid from the upper small intestine (where bile enters). The vet may recommend a Parvo test, bloodwork, or x-rays to see what is causing her sickness, and can make an appropriate treatment plan when they have a better idea of the cause of her vomiting.

The clear liquid vomit in puppies is not too concerning to me at this rate. This indicates that the puppy may have some mild stomach irritation or is drinking water too fast. If it continues to happen once every other day, then I wouldn't be too worried. This should pass in a week or two. If it's multiple times a day, or is continually happening every other day for multiple weeks, then I'd be a little more concerned and would advise a visit to the vet. This is definitely concerning - if your pup is not current on her booster vaccines, I would be very worried that she may have parvo. She may also have an upset stomach due to something she has eaten. If she is acting normal otherwise, you can try withholding food for the next 12 hours to help settle her stomach, then offer some plain boiled chicken and white rice. If she continues to vomit even though you aren't feeding her, or if she is acting lethargic or having any other symptoms, then I would recommend having her seen tonight by an emergency vet if possible as she may have a serious problem.

Poor Lily sounds quite ill at the moment! I would be concerned that she is vomiting water if her throw is clear liquid, and in a senior dog, that can quickly lead to dehydration. I know it's Monday in Australia, so I would take her into a vet today. She may need a shot to stop the vomiting, and IV fluids for hydration. The vet can also diagnose the cause of the vomiting, which can include severe GI illness, eating something rotten, pancreatitis, or something more serious such as organ failure or cancer.
