My dog is throwing up bloody, slimy vomit. What should I do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I noticed in one of those pictures that his stool is really diarrhea and is black (which usually means a sign of bleeding). Vomiting and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. In addition, black stools can be indicative of bleeding into the small intestine or stomach which can happen secondary to an ulcer for instance. Bloody urine can be the result of an infection, stones, tumors, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start him on medications to make him feel better and check his hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Blood in the vomit is definitely cause for concern, as it can indicate stomach ulcers, stomach parasites, or even a foreign body. As puppies are prone to getting into things they shouldn't, Simba may have ingested a toxin such as human pain medication or a piece of a toy. It is concerning that Simba did not feel well after vomiting. I recommend having him seen by a vet as vomiting blood can be a sign of a serious underlying condition. Your vet can perform bloodwork and x-rays to rule out the conditions above.

Poor Coki! I would be worried too, as having blood in the vomit can have very serious causes including GI ulcers, eating something toxic, GI tumors, bacterial or viral infection, a foreign body, or clotting disorders among others. I would have Coki seen by a vet right away for a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and possibly x-rays. Once the cause of the vomiting and blood is diagnosed, the vet can start treatment.

I’m sorry to hear of this disturbing finding with Osuka this morning! If he is acting normally otherwise and has not had this type of issue previously then I would recommend monitoring him for now. If this behavior continues, if he has bleeding from other areas, if he goes off his food or is generally not acting right then I would recommend having him evaluated by your regular veterinarian.

It sounds as Hugo is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Cindy could have an infection, parasite, gastritis from something she ate, pancreatitis, ulcer, metabolic/endocrine disease. You could withhold food for the day and then try a bland diet, like chicken and white rice and see if that helps. If the vomiting continues or she becomes lethargic than she needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can run lab-work and take x-rays, if needed, to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to help treat her problem. Hope she feels better soon.

Aw poor Jacky Gill! I'm very concerned about the blood in the vomit as this can indicate serve Gastrointestinal inflammation or ulcer formation. Jacky should see a veterinarian right away as he likely needs prescription medication to stop the vomiting and diarrhea. He may need fluids to help rehydrate him. It may also be a good idea to have X-rays done to ensure there is no intestinal blockage. Once he has received medical care a bland diet of boiled chicken and sweet potato or rice may also help him recover.
