My dog threw up worms. What's the best dewormer and is it contagious?

Panacur (fenbendazole) is probably one of the best broad spectrum dewormers. It treats hookworms, whipworms, roundworms and some tapeworms. It is also used to treat Giardia and lungworms. You will need to contact your veterinarian for a dose based on your dog's body weight. Legally, we are prohibited from recommending doses for medications in the absence of a physical exam and a VPCR (veterinarian-patient-client relationship).

It was likely a roundworm. It can be gross seeing these come up in the vomitus. You can give her one of two dewormers, found at your local pet or feed store: Pyrantel Palmoate or Fenbendazole. The dosage should be written right on the label; however they may be in generic form so just look for those active ingredients and you have found what she needs. YOu also want to treat her again in 2 weeks, because that is the life cycle of the worm. I would consider keeping Ace on a monthly heartworm prevention from here moving forward, because they all (except for Proheart) contain intestinal dewormer as well. The best medication for this is usually chosen based on a fecal examination to determine which parasite is affecting Ace. The same deworming medication can be given to your other dog. Thank you for the picture, it's very helpful. That looks like a roundworm. Jessie needs a deworming treatment, I recommend Drontal or Panacur. Give her a dose of Drontal or Panacur now, then another in two weeks. After that, she should get the medication once a month to prevent further issues with worms. I hope this helps!

I recommend that you have Emma evaluated by your veterinarian to start her on a dewormer. Intestinal worms are very easily treatable and usually clinical symptoms resolve. Oh no, poor Vegas! Worms that resemble maggots, or grains of rice, are most commonly tapeworm segments. These can be acquired by ingesting either rodents or fleas infected with tapeworms. It would be ideal to take Vegas to her vet for an exam and stool sample analysis to more precisely determine the cause of these worms. However, since she is acting normally and has not had further vomiting, you can consider deworming her with over the counter deworming medication containing praziquantel. Also be sure that she is receiving a high quality flea preventative regularly, such as Nexgard, Bravecto, or K9 Advantix II. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

I'm wondering if you mean Zo has worms. The best thing to buy him is a deworming treatment called Panacur. It kills roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms. You can get it at your vet's office. He will need a second deworming treatment two weeks after the first to kill all the worms. The first treatment kills the adults present while the second one kills the ones that had not yet hatched from eggs at the time of the first treatment. He should then be deworming monthly until six months of age, and then every three months thereafter. I hope this helps!
