My dog just threw up a peach pit. Is she okay or should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 90 lbs

Hi, my dog just threw up a peach pit. I didn't she ate this until she just threw it up! Is this going to be a serious problem. She was eating well & doing well otherwise! Please help!

As Scarlett vomited up the peach pit she should now be fine. Please keep an eye on her as long as she's eating and pooping normally she will be fine. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Good thing is that she threw it up. The issue is not knowing how much she could have eaten and if there is more left. I recommend that you monitor her very closely for symptoms consistent with foreign body ingestion and obstruction such as vomiting, inappetence, abdominal pain and lethargy. If any of those are observed, have her evaluated by your veterinarian to make sure that she did not ingest more. Otherwise, she is likely to be just fine. Good luck!

I am sorry to hear about Kyya! Hopefully this was all she got into and her body has taken care of getting it out! Many dogs would have this occur without any complications, but continue to monitor her for the next couple days for additional vomiting, decreased appetite, lethargy, abdominal pain, or straining to have a bowel movement and consult your veterinarian is these symptoms develop.

Oh, dear! With peach pits, there are two main concerns: if it was chewed up quite a bit before swallowing, there is a chance of a toxicity issue since peach pits do contain small amounts of cyanide. If he swallowed it whole, it's very likely to cause an intestinal obstruction as it moves through his GI tract, which would require surgery. If he just ate it, I would recommend having him seen by a vet right away - he/she can give an injection to safely induce vomiting so that, hopefully, he will throw it up and you won't need to worry.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. There is probably nothing to worry about for Huxley. The poisonous part of the pits are contained in the inner kernel so unless the pit is cracked open and the kernel missing, im not worried about that. That gnawing probably resulted in only tiny bits -if any- of the pit being swallowed. A dog this size is unlikely to have problems with that. Of course he may have a sensitive stomach or have gotten into something else in the trash that would cause a problem. If you see more than 3 episode of vomiting, severe lethargy, or loss of appetite lasting more than 8 hours, see an emergency vet to make sure he’s ok. Best of luck to you and Huxley!

If there are no signs of distress, abdominal discomfort, lethargy, inappetence, vomiting, diarrhoea or straining to defecate, I would not be worried about it as it is likely to pass through the whole intestine.

If she vomits again, has any difficulty pooping (acting constipated) is lethargic, not eating or otherwise acts sick at all, then she needs to go to the vet asap. My puppy threw up solid white vomit and jerked. Is she okay?

It sounds like Princess may have eaten something naughty (trash, toilet paper, paper plate, sock, toy stuffing, other) that decided to come back up. The fact that she has shown no signs today is promising. If she has eaten and kept it down, you are likely in the clear. Caveat: Do watch her closely for the next 2-3 days because if a smaller piece of whatever it was did get through and gets lodged in the intestine, you'll see lots more vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, etc. If this happens, it's time to see the vet.
