My dog has a pink thing in one eye, not the other. Is it normal?

It can be normal for the third eyelid to be slightly visible in some dogs, due to the shape of their faces and skull bones. In the photo, Ziggy's eyes look normal to me. If this is how he has always looked, and he does not have any other signs of an eye problem such as redness, squinting, or discharge, I would say that this is probably normal for him and not a reason for concern :)

Poor guy. I can't see the eye really clear here but can definitely tell that the pupil sizes are different. The left eye appears to be smaller than the right. I suspect that there may be an internal issue with the eye such as a condition called synechiae which is where the lens adheres to another structure in the eye causing inadequate proper flow through the eye chambers. This is considered to be a moderately severe condition and should be checked by your vet asap. The vet will have to do a proper eye exam to confirm the diagnosis and then get Ziggy on prescription eye mediation to hopefully stabilize the eye if this is what is going on. Another possible causes for this would be a condition called anisocoria, which could indicate a blood pressure issue. I hope that Ziggy's eye returns to normal soon! This looks normal to me. When dogs are tired or drifting off to sleep its common to see the third eyelid. When he is sitting up and awake, the normal appearance confirms this is normal. It is not cherry eye. Is he having any discharge from his eyes? If so, he may have an infection or some allergies that are making it more prominent. If he is having discharge from his eyes or they seem to be bothering him, take him in to your vet. Otherwise, there isn't cause for concern. Sometimes there are changes in pigmentation in that region of the eye which are not considered abnormal especially if not bothering the patient. Good luck and have a good night!

Sometimes it can become elevated and visible and normalize on its own. I would recommend that you continue to monitor Paris for now. If this does not normalize in the next few weeks, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment to make sure everything is ok with her eye. Good luck and have a great day!

I think that he looks normal. The red part in the eye is the third eyelid that is raised up just a bit. That pink color to the third eyelid and his gums is normal. If the third eyelid becomes more raised you should have your vet examine the eye.

Oh my! Einston is adorable! The area I believe you are talking about is the 3rd eyelid which is in the very inside corner of each eye. It is normal for a 3rd eyelid to be white, pink or brown. And dogs that have variable fur color often have some variation in the color of their 3rd eyelids. I would be sure to have your veterinarian verify that what you are looking at is his 3rd eyelid at his next regular appointment.
