Why is my dog's testicle skin loose and shedding? What's the cause?

It sounds like he could have a bacterial skin infection and may need an antibiotic. Have your vet take a look at him to determine the cause and prescribe medications to treat. He may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, and/or corticosteroid to help. You could aslo bathe him with a medicated dog shampoo, like Epi-soothe, to see if that helps.

I've seen this one time, and it was a hunting dog that I suspect had a disease transmitted from a tick. Tick diseases can cause vasculitis, which means inflammation of the small blood vessels. It's not uncommon for the scrotum to be affected, as the blood supply there isn't great. Sometimes we also see it on the tips of the ears. This could be an infectious problem (from a tick bite as mentioned above) or an auto-immune problem. Also can't rule out plain old trauma, like running around in a field with prickly grasses and the like. Get him checked out to rule out serious illness, and to get some relief for what I'm sure is a painful condition.

It sounds like he has a hot spot which can be caused by allergies, infections, licking/chewing/scratching, mites/fleas, etc. Have your vet take a look at the area to determine the exact cause. Your vet may need to shave and scrub the area and he may need an oral antibiotic and a steroid to help treat the problem.

Hello. This does not look too alarming. Your pet may have some allergies & that might contribute to the hair loss as well as the redness to his testicles. It looks as though he either has a scrotal infection or is having a contact reaction or suffered a burn or trauma to the scrotum. If he is licking them excessively he needs to wear an E-collar. I would use a triple antibiotic ointment on the scrotum twice daily. If there is no improvement over the weekend have him seen by your Vet next week. Good luck

Hello. This may be a bacterial infection, or it may be a secondary skin problem possibly related to hypothyroidism. Alfie is an older boy, so this would be something I would want to check out as skin problems are common. It may also just be calloused skin due to age, but it would not be a bad idea to have your vet take a look at things. Thank you.

This often happens when dogs excessively lick their testicles, then the skin gets infected and scabs over. I suggest you keep him from licking ( you can put an e-collar on him or a t-shirt or a baby jump suit, if you have one, and then take him to a vet this coming week for an exam. He may need antibiotics for the skin infection.
