My dog's testicles are peeling and bleeding. What should I do?

Without at least seeing a photo it is difficult to give advice. This could be a serious issue or it may be just some scrotal dematitis. This is usually very easy to treat so I'm not sure why you say the vet can't help you with a solution. Honestly, the only permanent solution is to have him neutered. This issue doesn't happen in neutered dogs. This could be a recurring issue because him scrotum is staying too wet. Do you keep him in a kennel? Is he laying in his urine a lot? You can try this over the counter antiseptic spray to see if that helps. You need to spray the scrotum 3-4 times per day in the beginning and once it starts to look better you can decrease to twice a day and then once a day. You may have to continue using it every couple days as a prevention or until you can figure out why he keeps getting this. ( ) Also, no matter what you use to treat the scrotum, it will not get better if you allow him to lick it. So, if he is licking it a lot you will need to buy him a cone collar until the scrotum is healed. Place an [e-collar](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/well-and-good-e-collar) (cone) on him right away to prevent further licking or scratching. If the wound is superficial, I suggest gently cleansing the area with a diluted betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution. Applying a warm washcloth 2-3 times a day for five minutes at a time may provide some relief from itching and discomfort. Afterwards, dry the area throughly. If there is no sign of improvement in a few days or if your dog develops a fever, loses his appetite, start [vomiting](https://www.petcoach.co/article/vomiting-in-dogs) and/or having [diarrhea](https://www.petcoach.co/article/diarrhea-in-dogs) then have him physically examined by your veterinarian right away. Additional symptoms that should also be addressed by your veterinarian include redness, swelling, discharge or bleeding.

This often happens when dogs excessively lick their testicles, then the skin gets infected and scabs over. I suggest you keep him from licking ( you can put an e-collar on him or a t-shirt or a baby jump suit, if you have one, and then take him to a vet this coming week for an exam. He may need antibiotics for the skin infection.

He could have a skn infection or possibly an allergic dermatitis. You could bathe him with a medicated dog shampoo and see if that helps. Otherwise, have him examined by your vet to determine the cause and treat the problem. He may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, and/or corticosteroid to help treat.

It looks as though he either has a scrotal infection or is having a contact reaction or suffered a burn or trauma to the scrotum. If he is licking them excessively he needs to wear an E-collar. I would use a triple antibiotic ointment on the scrotum twice daily. If there is no improvement over the weekend have him seen by your Vet next week. Good luck

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. An in tact dog may lick his scrotum for many reasons. The most common is actually “contact dermatitis”. That is, a rash from the friction of humping too much. Allergies, pain, and other causes are possible. I’d simply put him in an e-collar (pet store or online) so that he cannot lick them obsessively and cause further irritation. If it’s not better in 48 hours (or worsening at any time), it’s time to see the vet. I absolutely do NOT recommend any over the counter pain medications, though applying some frozen peas (wrapped in a thin kitchen towel or paper towel) might feel great and be very helpful to Fido. Hello there and thank you for posting your picture and concern about Choppies! From the picture you sent, it looks like Choppies has caused quite a bit of irritation and inflammation on his scrotum. I would pick up a plastic cone from the pet store to put around his head so that he is not able to lick this and then get him in to see your veterinarian for an examination. There are multiple possible causes of this, which include thermal burn, inflammation of structures inside the scrotum causing Choppies to lick due to the discomfort, infection or behavioral.
