My dog has sudden swollen testicles, but shows no pain. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 10 months old | 125 lbs

My dog has sudden onset of swollen testicles. He is eating and drinking fine doesn’t seem to be in pain. He has allergies and licks constantly. I do not see an open wounds on his Testicles

Swollen testicle can be due to torsion, allergic reaction or infection. i would recommend having it checked by your vet ASAP, if the swelling is too large you will need to take him to the emergencies if your vet is not open today.

It could be due to an infection, inflammation or cancer. i would recommend taking him to the vet as soon as you can in order to get it checked and treated, it's highly likely that neutering will be recommended.

Poor boy! This sounds like it may be orchitis or testicular torsion both of which can be very painful. The best way to manage it is to have him neutered. There are many hospitals that do low cost neutering, and I would be happy to set up a consult to help you find one in your area. I'm sure this hurts your pup a lot, and he will feel so much better when he is neutered.

I would advise that you go ahead and give a dose of the Benedryl and then get him into the vet as soon as possible- tonight with the ER vet is ideal. This could signal an allergic reaction, or a viral/bacterial infection. But I am most worried about something extremely painful such as a testicular torsion (where the testicle twists on itself, cutting of blood flow and causing swelling). If you can’t get to the vet tonight, ice the testicle for 5-10 minutes every 2-64hours to help with pain and swelling. Place a paper towel or thin cloth between the ice pack and his scrotum. Hello, sorry to hear about Balou. I would be most concerned with a testicular torsion which would be a very painful disease or potentially and testicular tumor. I would recommend having him evaluated by his veterinarian as soon as possible to ensure he does not have either of the this. If he seems overly painful, then he should be evaluated on emergency bases tonight. If he is otherwise eating and drinking ok, then he may wait to see his veterinarian in the morning. Finally, a testicular infection could be a potential cause. However this is most likely with trauma. Please have him evaluated soon. Hope this helps and best of luck.

This could have a few causes - given that Carson is such an important dog to your wife, I would recommend taking him to the ER vet. It could be an infection, or testicular torsion. The swelling may be an abscess or a lymph node. A physical exam, and possibly an ultrasound or xray may reveal more information. There are some fungal infections more likely in the South - so specific blood tests may need to be ordered.

Poor Precious! In a senior dog, I would be concerned that his swollen testicles could be due to testicular cancer. It could also be caused by injury or infection in that area. Drinking a lot of water can be a sign of a medical illness such as diabetes, UTI, Cushing's disease, kidney failure, or bladder stones. If his testicles are quite swollen and are causing him a lot of discomfort, I would have him seen by a vet right away. Otherwise, have him seen by a vet first thing in the morning.
