My dog has swollen testicles with yellow discharge. What's wrong?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 11 years old | 90 lbs

My dog has extremely swollen testicles. He doesn’t act like he’s in pain right now, but extremely uncomfortable. It doesn’t look like there’s been any injury but he has yellow discharge coming from his scrotum. He isn’t licking the area, but his walk and how he sits down have changed. I checked for any bites or scratches and there were none. I need to know what I can do to take the swelling down and I need to know what all I need to be concerned about.

Hello, sorry to hear about Balou. I would be most concerned with a testicular torsion which would be a very painful disease or potentially and testicular tumor. I would recommend having him evaluated by his veterinarian as soon as possible to ensure he does not have either of the this. If he seems overly painful, then he should be evaluated on emergency bases tonight. If he is otherwise eating and drinking ok, then he may wait to see his veterinarian in the morning.

Finally, a testicular infection could be a potential cause. However this is most likely with trauma. Please have him evaluated soon. Hope this helps and best of luck.
