My dog's paw is swollen and looks sprained. What should I do?

I agree, it does sound like King's paw is really hurting him. I'd avoid touching it for now. I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

Ouch, poor King! That looks very painful, and I would definitely take him into the vet to get it treated, Keep it wrapped until then to prevent him from biting at it, but have him seen by a vet first thing in the Monday. Good luck, I hope this helps!

This is likely causing Savage a great deal of pain and discomfort and further evaluation and treatment of this will require veterinary treatment. Your veterinarian would be able to appropriately medicate him for pain control and possibly sedate him so that the paw can be carefully inspected to look for possible reasons that can result in swelling such as a foreign body stuck in the paw. Hello, sorry to hear about Royalty. It is actually. difficult to know if he has any fractures without an x-ray of the foot and wrist. However, signs of a fracture will include non-weight bearing lameness on that leg, pain, persistent swelling, and severe bruising. If he is walking on the leg comfortably, it would be less likely that he has a fracture. But if you think he is having the above mentioned sings, the recommended next step is to have his veterinarian seen him so that he can have an x-ray. Hope this helps and best of luck.

The leash must be removed immediately to relieve the obstruction of the blood flow. If the leg is evidently distorted or broken or her foot is cold to touch she needs urgent vet care otherwise monitor for a reduction in swelling and discomfort over 12 hours or so

I would take him into a vet right away. It's concerning that his leg is now swollen, and the skin from his paws came off. If his leg looks white, I'm concerned about blood supply getting to that leg. It sounds like from your description he may have seriously injured himself, and in my opinion he needs to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. This could be from an injury or this could be edema due to a systemic disease or infection. It is hard to say. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would recommend having x-rays taken of the foot and leg.
