My husky's paw pad is swollen and pink after boarding. What to do?

This swollen toe on your dog could be caused by a foreign body, an infection, or by a broken toe. I would have her seen by a vet tomorrow for it. It does sound like it's bothering her if she doesn't want to go on a walk lately. The vet can diagnose what is causing the swollen toe so it can be treated. In the meantime, you can try soaking her foot tonight in an Epsom salt bath to see if that helps with the swelling.

It looks like he could have an infection. You could soak his paw in a warm dilute Epsom salt solution and see if that helps. Otherwise, have him examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. He may need an antibiotic to treat infection.

This presentation could be due to a trauma/foreign body/body wound or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. I would recommend soaking the foot in epsom salt for about 15 minutes tonight and then see your vet in the morning for a closer look. There may be an infection or abscess that needs drainage and antibiotics. Do not give her any medications tonight but the soak will help some of the swelling to get you until your appointment. Inspect her paw for thorns or other foreign bodies, You can also bathe/soak the paw in some warm epsom salt bath, If the swelling does not go down within 48 hrs you need to take her to a vet for an exam. There may be infection and she might need prescription antibiotics.

If the swelling is just on 1 paw then I would be suspicious that there may be a migrating foreign body. Probing the swelling may be helpful to find the object. Also soaking in warm water and Epsom salt soaks a few times a day may be helpful as well. If the swelling is on both feet could you post again with a picture? Try soaking it in some warm water with Epsom salt if he will allow it-- this is easiest to do by putting the water and epsom salt in a plastic bag and putting his paw into the plastic bag. If you can do this for about 10 minutes or so, that may help if he has any debris , sticker, grass seed, etc that is embedded in the skin. If he is licking at it, be sure to put an Ecollar (cone of shame) on him. Dry it with a towel then allow to air dry, then you can use this product on it: If it is not improving within a couple of days, take him in to your vet. Thanks for asking PetCoach!
