My puppy's jaw is swollen with a hard lump. Is it from a wire or bite?

Oh my. This looks like a pretty serious injury. Your poor fur baby needs to see your local vet to have this wound managed well. The only thing you can do over the counter is to flush the wound with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water and then sterile saline daily. The vet will investigate this area to see if any stitches or staples need to be placed and also get your poor baby on oral antibiotics (ie Clindamycin) and anti-inflammatory medicine (ie Rimadyl). Without proper closure and antibiotics, this wound will likely not heal well. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He is so adorable! This could have been due to a traumatic injury during the play date even if there is not an external wound present. Another possibility is that this was noted incidentally after a play date and this is actually something unrelated such as due to dental disease or even a growth underneath those tissues. I recommend you keep an eye on it for now. If it is just swelling from a traumatic injury, it may improve on its own. However, it may not improve on its own and need further therapy. If it is something else, it will probably continue to be present or worsen over time. If it does not improve or it worsens in the next week, I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck!

It is not possible to know with just a picture. However, it is not recommended to give a dog Advil as this is not used in veterinary medicine due to its possible toxicity especially without possibly an appropriate dose. There is not much you can do at home without going to a veterinarian. For that reason, I recommend you consider going to your veterinarian for further assessment and possible treatment. They will start with a physical examination and possibly diagnostics depending on what the issue seems to be. Advil is not usually a medication given to pets as it can cause organ issues and severe stomach upset, however it is possible your vet tried to give a steroid or a pet-safe NSAID for the swelling. The area looks pretty awful and likely infected and should be seen by a veterinarian right away. i would be concerned at how fast it is changing and see if your vet wants to take a sample to send to a lab to rule out any other issues such as tumors/growths that could be causing it in addition to infection. Your vet may also recommend additional treatment or medications that can be given orally to prevent it from being rubbed/licked off. Keeping an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Scrapi is also a good idea to keep him from rubbing the spot.

The bump is probably swollen tissue, as he was bitten by another dog there is very high chances of him developing a bad infection from the bite wound, you will need to take him to the vet ASAP in order to get the wound checked and he will need a course of antibiotics in order to get better.

I would advise taking her to your vet for an exam after they gather the history. This could be pain, discomfort, infection, inflammation, anatomical problems, among other things. I do not recommend you give him those pills as they are unlikely to help. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point.
