Why is my dog's face swollen, hyper, snapping, and won't allow ear touch?

Usually, face swelling is not a commonly encountered sign of an ear infection so if his face continues to get swollen before tomorrow when you can have him evaluated by your veterinarian, consider having him evaluated tonight to make sure it is not something more concerning than an ear infection. This could be an allergic reaction, or it could be from some kind of skin infection. It is unusual that the swelling seems to be moving around. I would recommend scheduling an appointment with your vet, particularly since Noah seems painful.

This could be an overly full salivary gland due to a n obstructed or blocked salivary duct. This could also be a cyst or an abscess or, indeed, and insect bite. This is something that needs to be examined by your veterinarian and possibly drained. If there is a salivary duct blockage the duct will need to be unblocked. Please take Sadie to your veterinarian before the weekend.

If the ear looks like a small pillow, it could be a hematoma. Blood filling the ear will make it look puffy. The odor can be due to a severe ear infection. Excessive head shaking can cause a hematoma. Treatment is twofold. First, drain the ear or correctly via surgery then treat the underlying ear infection. Roxie may have gotten bitten or stung by something to cause that location reaction which can be painful. An infected tooth can also cause a swelling in the area. If she is eating and drinking well and acting normal otherwise, then keep her quiet tonight and have your vet check for dental disease tomorrow.
