Dog has swollen abdomen from insect bite. Benadryl helped, what's next?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | 7 lbs

I think my dog got bit by some sort of insect and he has a sack hanging from his abdomen. We know he made an allergy to something because he got a little better with benadryl

Yes that is right as it seems to be an allergic reaction.
If the signs persist in the next 48hours, I would recommend to use a steroid based topical or systemic medication (on prescription) to stop completely the allergic process and resolve the signs.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Honey!

Her leg is very swollen and I highly recommend taking her to the Vet today. It could be an allergic reaction from an insect but it could be something more serious: lymphatic obstruction from a mass/cancer, low blood protein, vasculitis, snake bite. It is likely very uncomfortable for her. Below is a link for Benadryl but I would take her to the Vet.

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if Neno is lethargic, take her to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.

If the Benadryl was effective, I would have expected to see a reduction in the swelling by now. Sometimes allergic reactions require stronger drugs to treat such a steroids, and it sounds like this may be the cause for Moose. Because the swelling hasn't reduced and the reaction appears to be progressing, it's time to see a vet immediately. Please take him into an ER vet clinic if your regular vet is closed; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Signs of infection would include; Pain Redness- which is growing or spreading Discharge Foul odor Swelling Changes in appetite Vomiting or dirrhoea In the meantime you can apply a cool compress to the bumps forever few hours for the first 24, then switch to a warm compress. My dog's eye is swollen from a bug bite. What home remedies help?

Poor girl. Sometimes Benadryl can be tried in pets with an acute allergic reaction to insect bites with success. You can also try applying a cold compress on the swollen area for 5-10 minutes (if allowed) to reduce the swelling. As long as the swelling improves and does not spread over the next 24 hrs, and Sophia does not have any systemic effects (i..e lethargy, pale gums, heavy breathing, swelling around the neck), then she can potentially recover from this with antihistamines (i.e. diphenhydramine) alone. However some pets will require a steroid shot to stop the reaction, which your vet should be able to give Sophia if needed.

Why is my dog's penis and abdomen swollen? Is it an insect bite?

It looks like the area may be a bit infected in addition to swelling. It would be best to have it looked at by a local veterinarian so that the area can be cleaned up and any antibiotics given as needed to help Mr. Odin feel better.
