My dog is swaying, vomiting, and unsteady. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 45 lbs

My dog is swaying when he walks or even sits, he can't keep his balance. I think he may have gotten into something while I was asleep and then puked and now my other dog is vomiting and it seems like she ate his vomit. What should I do?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Kohel!

Is there a chance that he could have gotten in to Marijuana? I agree it does sound like he could have gotten in to a toxin. Be sure that he didn't have access to anti-freeze. If there is ANY chance he could have it is deadly and immediate intervention is needed.

The best thing for both dogs is to be seen at an Emergency hospital. It is best to be safe and proactive since you do not know what they could have gotten in to.

I hope this helps and I wish you and both your dogs the very best!
