My dog is swaying, vomiting, and unsteady. What should I do?

Dogs do get something called vestibular disease (a king of vertigo) that can throw their balance off but it usually happens in older dogs. I have never seen it in a 4 year old dog. I would be very worried that he may have ingested something toxic. I really think you should get him examined by a vet as soon as possible.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Finley! I worry about a toxin, mushroom or recreational drug ingestion. I am glad that Finely is better today but I would highly recommend a Vet exam. Other causes could be kidney problems, vestibular disease or infectious causes (like tick borne disease). If you can't take him to the Vet then continue to tempt him to eat and drink and watch him closely. Ideally he should have an appointment today with your Vet. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Kimber! It sounds like Kimber ate something toxic. Her symptoms sound very suspicious for Marijuana toxicity. Since she is acting neurologic she should be seen by a Vet right away. We treat marijuana toxicity all the time in the emergency room. If she could have had access to that or any other drugs just be honest with the Vet. They are there to help and it will allow for the best treatment for Kimber! Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Dixie! Since she is so young I really worry about her eating a toxin. Another possibility though it is not common in such a young dog is vestibular disease. This is when the balance center is off and they feel like they are spinning. Their eyes tend to be moving abnormally, they have a head tilt, fall to one direction, walk drunk and vomit. I would take her to an open emergency hospital to be evaluated. I wish you the best!

Two dogs with the same weird symptoms sounds like a toxicity of some sort. I suggest you check the surroundings for anything they may be ingesting (a plant, any type of poison, cleaning solution, etc). If they are walking drunk-like that is a problem and you should be somewhat worried.

I'm sorry to hear that Oscar isn't feeling well. The symptoms you describe are very concerning to me. It may be that he has a neurologic disease, or (especially if he's older) he may a tumor which has started to cause some internal bleeding. Though his gums are pink, this is still possible. Is there any chance he got into something in terms of a possible toxin? If he will get up and walk to you, and he responds to his name each time, and will eat and drink; it is reasonable to wait until morning if you don't have a vet emergency center near you. If he is unable to rise on his own, if he won't respond to his name, if he's vomiting, seems painful, or if he seems to be getting worse at all, please seek an emergency veterinarian. That sounds serious! Even though yournone dog seems okay now I would recommend taking her to a vet right away - she may have had a seizure or have heart disease or low blood sugar. While there are toxins that can cause vomiting and toxins that can cause neurologic symptoms like loss of consciousness it is not very likely that someone is deliberately poisoning your dogs without your knowledge. I’d recommend seeing a veterinarian to have both dogs evaluated.
