My dog is suddenly wobbly, falling, and drinking a lot. Is he sick?

I am glad that Finely is better today but I would highly recommend a Vet exam. Other causes could be kidney problems, vestibular disease or infectious causes (like tick borne disease). If you can't take him to the Vet then continue to tempt him to eat and drink and watch him closely. Ideally he should have an appointment today with your Vet. This can be due to an issue with his vestibular system, or the part of the nervous system responsible for compensating for changes in location (for example, in a human, getting dizzy on a merry go round is a result of your vestibular system getting "confused"). This is especially likely if he is falling to one side consistently. Vestibular issues can come from the nervous system itself or from the inner ear. Snoop can also have a generalized weakness causing him to fall over, which can be due to a toxin, dehydration, low blood sugar, and many other causes. Snoop should definitely be seen by a vet as soon as possible to determine the underlying cause of his loss of balance and initiate the appropriate treatment.

That is very unusual. There are several things that come to mind that could cause the signs. Ingesting toxins, an inner ear infection, stroke or viral infections are all possible. Anytime a pet appears off-balance you should be concerned and I recommend to take Nigel in to see a veterinarian right away. The doctor will need to perform a few basic tests to try to figure out the cause of the imbalance. Treatment will depend on the cause. Best of luck and I hope this is helpful. I agree it does sound like he could have gotten in to a toxin. Be sure that he didn't have access to anti-freeze. If there is ANY chance he could have it is deadly and immediate intervention is needed. The best thing for both dogs is to be seen at an Emergency hospital. I'm sorry to hear that Oscar isn't feeling well. The symptoms you describe are very concerning to me. It may be that he has a neurologic disease, or (especially if he's older) he may a tumor which has started to cause some internal bleeding. Though his gums are pink, this is still possible. Is there any chance he got into something in terms of a possible toxin? If he will get up and walk to you, and he responds to his name each time, and will eat and drink; it is reasonable to wait until morning if you don't have a vet emergency center near you. If he is unable to rise on his own, if he won't respond to his name, if he's vomiting, seems painful, or if he seems to be getting worse at all, please seek an emergency veterinarian. I am sorry to hear that Preston isn’t feeling well. At such a young age this concerns Me about the possibility of intoxication. If there is any chance he could have ingested a prescription or recreational medication then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. I also worry about a possibility of infection such as distemper virus, or other neurologic abnormalities. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Dixie! Since she is so young I really worry about her eating a toxin. Another possibility though it is not common in such a young dog is vestibular disease. This is when the balance center is off and they feel like they are spinning. Their eyes tend to be moving abnormally, they have a head tilt, fall to one direction, walk drunk and vomit. I would take her to an open emergency hospital to be evaluated. I wish you the best!
