My Labrador swallowed a stuffed animal. Should I call the vet immediately?

There is the potential the pork fat could make Charlie sick, and it could cause him pancreatitis again. I would monitor him and if you do see signs of pancreatitis, take him into a vet immediately. You could take him into a vet now to have vomiting induced to get the fat out so there won't be any problems. Best of luck.

I smiled when reading this because it's so like a lab to eat half a lasagna! One of my concerns about it is if there are any onions or garlic in the homemade sauce, both of which are toxic to dogs. If there was enough of either, that could cause anemia in Benjamin, signs of which include lethargy, exercise intolerance, decreased appetite, and pale gums. The other concern is the fattiness of the dish. Too much fat causes pancreatitis in dogs. Signs of that include vomiting, abdominal pain, vomiting undigested food, anorexia, hunched back, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and lethargy. Yikes! Butter isn't toxic, but it could potentially cause her to relapse to her recent problems since it is very high in fat. Hopefully not, but it can cause very greasy stools or even diarrhea for a day or two. If Maddie starts vomiting or has a poor appetite, then she should probably get checked out by the vet (again). If she is ok other than loose stools or diarrhea, I would wait for 48 hours, and see a vet if it is still going on at the end of that period.

The only thing you should do right now is to monitor her for any signs of an obstruction which includes: excessive vomiting (especially water), decreased appetite, lethargy and little to no stool production. This sounds like something that should pass through with no problems, but just keep an eye on here tonight and definitely get her seen by a vet tomorrow if she develops any concerning symptoms. You can also try feeding her a piece of bread 1-2 times a day to help bind up the rubber and help facilitate its passage through her GI tract. I am worried he could have an obstruction or blockage in the gut, and this is fatal without surgery. He could also have a severe gastritis (inflammed gut). I strongly recommend that you get him to a vet as soon as possible. He will likely require x-rays, IV fluids, bloodwork, and possibly surgery. I hope Toga feels better soon!

I am sorry to hear about your concern for Jack. Some dogs can ingest an item like this with no problems, but dogs with a more sensitive GI tract may experience vomiting and diarrhea, and in rare cases may develop pancreatitis. I would recommend you take her in. She may have some pancreatitis from the fat. (Her pancreas may have become inflamed trying to secrete enough enzymes to help digest the fat). Or it could be coincidental and she also ate part of a toy or something and has an intestinal obstruction, or maybe she has Parvovirus. A lethargic puppy is always a worry.
