My dog ate butter after recovering from GI upset. Is she okay?

While she could develop dietary indiscretion from eating something high in fat, pumping her stomach would probably be a bit much. I would watch her closely for signs of dietary indiscretion like vomiting, diarrhea and inappetence and if observed have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment at that point. There is a chance that she will be ok with this and not develop any signs though I would watch her closely in case she need therapy. Good luck and best wishes! I hope she does great!

Naughty dog! I too have a counter surfer. ;) The biggest concern here would be possible pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) due to the high fat content. (the pancreas produces enzymes that help digest fat, and when the pancreas is overwhelmed it can cause pancreatitis). Generally symptoms include vomiting, inappetence, and abdominal pain. Its not LIKELY to cause pancreatitis if your dog doesn't have a history of this problem, but it is POSSIBLE. It will likely cause some loose stools. If you have an emergency hospital nearby, you could consider taking him there for them to induce vomiting, to try to minimize the chances of him developing pancreatitis. (If you are the "do everything I absolutely can to prevent a problem" type.) However, I don't think it is absolutely imperative that you do that....unless he has a history of pancreatitis in the past. It is reasonable to just monitor him at home, and feed a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice for next day or two. Expect some loose stools, but if he starts to become lethargic and/or starts vomiting and/or is not wanting to eat, take him to your vet. I recommend you have Mocha seen by a vet, as you mentioned she is acting unwell and vomiting, and that amount of fat intake could lead to pancreatitis. Most likely she will have several bouts of diarrhea and perhaps some vomiting. The butter will create a sort of slip-n-slide and cause loss of fluid so it is important to give her small amounts of Pedialyte (if diarrhea or vomiting do occur) to prevent dehydration. Also a bland diet of tuna and rice can be given to help her stomach settle. She should slowly improve over the next few days as the butter exits her system.

Avocado itself isn't toxic, but does have a high fat content that may cause GI upset. It may be a good idea to replace Kylie's regular diet for a few meals with some boiled rice and chicken to help settle her stomach, especially if she has any minor vomiting or diarrhea after eating the "snack". Some dogs can have severe reactions from eating too much fat, such as pancreatitis. Signs of something more severe that warrant a trip to the vet ASAP include blood in the vomit or diarrhea, painful abdomen, bloated abdomen, attempting to vomit or defecate without results, or general distress/lethargy/loss of appetite. If you do see these signs, scheduling a vet visit ASAP is best.

Maxi can get pancreatitis from this or diarrhea and vomiting. I would recommend giving her a bland diet (boiled chicken and white rice) just to calm everything down and then monitor her. If she starts vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, becomes lethargic then I recommend bringing her to a veterinarian.
