My dog ate a Neosporin tube. What if he swallowed the plastic?

Teddy will probably be fine, especially since it sounds like he ate very little of the Neosporin. However, I would be on the watch for vomiting or diarrhea, since these are the most common problems associated with ingesting medications. If he begins to have vomiting or diarrhea you made need to take hkm the veterinarian to treat those symptoms.

He will likely be just fine after ingesting this. Just monitor him for the next 24 hrs for any stomach upset symptoms (vomiting and/or diarrhea). A bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice can be tried to settle his stomach. If his stomach upset is more severe than a vet visit can help him get back to normal status. As there are hundreds of different types of antibiotics, you should try to tell us which ones where inside the tube or alternatively take Peanut straight to your veterinarian for a check up and symptomatic treatment to avoid intoxication. Depending on the amount that was in the tube, you may see vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, bloody stool, abdominal pain or excessive thirst/urination. The tube itself presents another issue since it can cause obstruction or internal injury. Ideally, Mia should be examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. Induction of vomiting may be contraindicated since the tube may cause damage coming up. After a physical exam, the vet can determine the best course of action to retrieve or remove the tube while treating any symptoms.

I'd be concerned in that if Cody ate parts of the tube, it could cause GI obstruction. In addition, the anti-fungal cream could cause some vomiting and diarrhea if there was some left in the tube. I'd monitor him for now, and if you do see any vomiting or diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he continues to have vomiting and diarrhea while withholding food or on the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, I would have him seen by a vet. Hopefully though, he didn't eat any of the tube or ingest any remaining cream, and he will be just fine :-)

If that is the remaining portion of the tube he ate, then you likely do not have much to worry about since it does not appear he ate it all. however, iodine can be very irritating to the GI tract has potential to cause vomiting and diarrhea or a decreased appetite. it can also cause stomach ulcers. You may notice him burping. If you notice these signs, then i would have him checked.
