My puppy swallowed a mask, vomiting, but mask isn't coming up. Help!

Oh dear! It's common for puppies this age to eat things like this that they shouldn't, unfortunately. You're right that it's possible for pieces of the mask to get stuck in his intestines and cause an obstruction, but they may also pass through his system without any problems at all. As long as he is acting normal (eating and drinking fine, active and playful, no vomiting, and pooping regularly), there shouldn't be any reason for concern. If he stops eating, or begins to vomit or act lethargic, then I would recommend taking him to the vet for x-rays to see if he may have an obstruction - if so, surgery can be performed to remove the blockage at that time. But as long as he is not showing any symptoms, there is no need for any kind of treatment :)

Not sure if these signs are due to a possible ingestion like you describe, but I would advise getting Milo evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. It is possible that the ingredients of the mask have irritated the stomach/intestinal lining causing these signs. It is always possible that the masque ingestion is just coincidental and other things are causing the signs. The anorexia (not eating) and vomiting are very important though. Persistent vomiting and lack of appetite are emergent clinic signs due to fluid/electrolyte losses. This leads to dehydration, weakness, and further downward deterioration unless the vomiting stops and the appetite returns. Many causes are possible including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion (eating things dogs aren't supposed to), other dietary problems, gastrointestinal inflammation/infection from various sources, toxin exposure, foreign body ingestion, GI ulceration, side effects from drugs or products used, or even problems outside of the gut including pancreatitis, liver/kidney problems, among many others. Your vet can get a detailed history and perform a thorough exam. Once done, a diagnostic plan and preliminary treatment plan can be started. Most likely a minimum database of fecal/blood/urine tests and some x-rays will be advised. Treatment will be focused on the cause but early treatment could include fluids/electrolytes, anti-nausea/vomiting medicines, acid blockers, etc. Good luck with Milo. Regardless of eating the sock or not, he is still vomiting, so I would recommend taking him to a vet right away. He is young and a lot of vomiting can cause dehydration that puppies cannot recover from on their own. The vet may want to check for intestinal parasites and parvo virus (common causes of vomiting in puppies) and may also take an x-ray to look for a foreign object in the intestinal tract. If no cause for vomiting is found, the doctor can treat the vomiting and replace the fluids Shiro has lost so he doesn't get sicker. If a cause for the vomiting is found, the doctor will discuss the next best steps for Shiro. Good luck and kisses to Shiro!

Poor Max! I agree that this sounds as if he has something either lodged in his mouth (typically the roof of the mouth) or further down his respiratory tract. Open his mouth carefully and look to see if you can visualize anything there first. If you don't see anything and he continues this behavior for more than an hour or so, then it's time to get him examined by your local vet. If he continues to comit uncontrollably (once or more an hour), then he needs to go to the ER vet right away! At that point, radiographs taken of his upper airway would be the ideal diagnostic test to finding out what is truly going on there, and what specific treatment or intervention is needed to help poor Max out and get him some relief right away.

Puppies are notorious for swallowing anything that crosses their path. They don't have hands, so they explore everything with their mouths. He may have swallowed something that is stuck, there may even be a piece of string looped around the base of his tongue. Hopefully your vet did a thorough oral examination, including lifting the tongue in order to see underneath. This area is very hard to see and string can hide there very easily. It could be a long human hair that is bothering him. If you find string, thread or hair in his mouth that goes down his throat, DO NOT PULL IT. Same goes for any you may see as he tries to defecate. NEVER pull on any linear foreign body. It could be looped around some soft tissue out of sight and you will cause more damage. Any stringlike material caught around the tongue should be cut with a pair of safety scissors and allowed to go on down. If this happens, let your vet know what is going on and if he develops any other symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, get him back in to see your vet right away.

Poor girl. Let her vomit. If she vomits up the particles well then that is a good thing. However if she tries to vomit and cannot produce anything, or if she continues to vomit liquids and refuses food, then this is concerning for a potential blockage and she should be taken to your vet right away. So monitor her for the next 24-48 hrs for any signs of a blockage which includes: excessive vomiting (even water), refusing food, few feces, +/- abdominal pain, and lethargy. If she doesn't have any of these symptoms and can keep her food down well, then she is likely to be just fine. However for the future you should try to keep these harmful things out of her reach, because puppies are very curious and will put almost anything in their mouths, not realizing how harmful they can be.

Yes, definitely take her into the vet now. Bailey is a young puppy, and while she may have swallowed some tissues, I'd also be concerned she could have parvovirus as she won't be fully vaccinated. Whenever a young puppy is having both vomiting and diarrhea, the best thing for them is to have them see a vet immediately. Best of luck.
