Why is my dog suddenly withdrawn, not eating, and showing pain?

I'm sorry to hear Gizmo isn't acting himself! Without seeing him it is very hard to say. It sound like he could be painful and he's acting anxious. I recommend taking him to the vet for a full physical exam. Have them check for pain in his limbs or spine. Have them check for an ear infection or any evidence of fleas. Also have them check his anal glands. These are common areas that pets have problems and show signs of anxiety. I would also question if there have been any loud noises or thunder storms. This can be caused by many different things, including impending illness, stress, pain, a change in his environment, behavioral, etc. I would recommend a good checkup with a vet to see if there is a medical cause. The vet will perform a thorough physical exam and look for any abnormalities or sources of potential pain. Bloodwork may be recommended to for internal medical illnesses. If nothing is uncovered, then they may discuss other treatments such as things for stress or help you evaluate what started this new attitude.

Your question unfortunately got cut off but I have a few ideas based on what I can read. It is possible this is an arthritis flare up or some other painful event (spinal stroke, Embolism, slipped disk, or other). It is also possible he is recovering from a seizure- which can result in abnormal Behavior for up to a day. There are also neurological diseases and infectious diseases that can cause weakness and odd behavior. Take Casper to your local vet who can likely help narrow down the problem with a good physical and neurological exam and can prescribe pain medication if needed.

Poor guy. Stomach upset is a possible cause; however, with such vague symptoms of being uncomfortable and decreased appetite, there are other potential internal issues. I notice that he is intact also, so a prostate issue could also cause a sudden pain response and decreased appetite as well. If he does not seem to be improving on his own within the next 1-2 days, then it is best to get him fully examined by your veterinarian for any other sources of his pain (prostate, joints, etc). Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like Teddybear could have moderate separation anxiety (that’s the not letting you out of his sight). The appetite changes can also be due to something like chronic pancreatitis or acid reflux/stomach ulcer. I have also seen clingy behavior and changes to appetite with pain (hurt back/neck especially). Long story short, take Teddybear in for a good checkup with your vet. If there is nothing weird on exam or routine bloodwork, you can chat about anxiety medications that can help. Best of luck to you and Teddybear!

There are a wide variety of health problems that can cause shaking/crying and decreased appetite. Pain or discomfort from a number of health problems could cause the shaking and crying. Decreased appetite may be due to pain or can be due to nausea from any number of health issues such as orthopedic conditions, organ dysfunction, infections, autoimmune diseases, toxins, or certain types of cancers. Due to the variety of possibilities in this case, I would highly recommend Fido be seen by his veterinarian right away for an evaluation. Hi and thanks for posting. You shouldn't need to change the food frequently- in fact doing so can create a very picking and finicky eater. Ceaser's is lower quality food. You might opt for something a little more higher quality such as Purina Pro Plan, Hill's Science diet or Wellness brand formula. However, there are causes for decreased eating such as tooth infections or periodontal disease that can make eating painful. Other causes can include kidney or liver disease, pancreatic diseases, and endocrine disorders among others that can lead to decreased appetite and/or weight loss. I would recommend an exam with your veterinarian soon along with some basic blood work to start to determine if there are any underlying issues. I hope this helps!
