My dog won't eat and is getting thin. What food should I switch to?

I personally don't feel Caesar is one of the best supermarket brands of food. I would try him on Purina One, which is the best of the supermarket brands in my opinion. Best sure to do the switch slowly to avoid GI upset. I hope this helps!

Hi, thank you for using PetCoach. I would work on weaning Cherokee off of the Cesars as soon as you can. That food is very high in fat and not a very healthy food. You don't say how old she is now. If under a year, I would suggest a puppy or growth formula. If adult, feed an adult maintenance food. Purina ProPlan, Science Diet or Iams are all very good brands. Start slowly transitioning her by mixing 75% current food and 25% new diet and switch very slowly to the new food over the course of several weeks. If she is otherwise healthy, a healthy dog is not going to starve themselves to death. But in the long run she will be much healthier on a high quality dog food. Do not give people food or table food at all either. It could be that Casper doesn't like this brand of food, and that's why he's refusing to eat it. He will only eat it when he's really hungry. You can try him on a different brand of food, and brands I highly recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams. If you do decide to switch food, then you need to do it slowly to avoid GI upset. There is also a chance that he could have a dental problem causing him to not eat some days due to pain, and I would recommend a health check by a vet to make sure he is healthy.

Hi. I would recommend trying a different high quality food to explore if there is one she may like better. Science diet, royal canin, Iams, and Purina are the top quality brands. I would also make sure she has had a full exam, especially of mouth, and labwork, as well as a fecal sample test just to be sure there isn't another obvious cause of decreased appeitie.

Weigh loss causes are multiple: insufficient food intake, increased exercise, anorexia, diseases affecting the intestine/pancreas/liver, infections, tumors....To exclude all the health related causes of weight loss a vet check up would be needed. If everything health wise is in order I would recommend to check if the amount of food he is getting is enough for his weight; consider to adjust the dose if needed and/or change the diet completely. Good quality commercial diets (Hill's, Royal Canin) are definitively the best choice to make sure you provide all the nutrients Pancake needs. Ceaser is experiencing very general symptoms of disease, these symptoms could fit almost any internal condition, maybe he is suffering from Cancer and maybe he is in pain, from the symptoms described it's very hard to know. i would recommend taking him to the vet as soon as possible in order to get him checked, if he doesn't show any other obvious symptoms during the examination, a blood test and possibly an ultrasound will be needed in order to try and find out what is wrong with him.
