My dog is suddenly timid and hiding. Is she sick or just scared?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 50 lbs

I've got a border collie/aussie mix that will be two years old in a couple of months, and she has been acting incredibly timid for at least a solid two months. She is very scared of storms and fireworks, and we've had a lot of those, but even so, she hides in the closet when we DON'T have storms. It's gotten to the point where she will only go outside, go for walks and rides, or hide in the closet. She used to be a lot more social. I'm scared for her health, and I miss interacting with her.

I'm sorry that Lola is acting this way. Get her in to the vet so that they can do an exam and lab work on her. Its possible that there has been a change in her health that is making her want to hide. Sometimes if dogs are painful or nauseated, they will seek to hide.
If she gets a clean bill of health at the vet, contact as your vet to recommend a good trainer. A trainer can probably help you specifically address Lola's behaviors. In the meantime, just be sure that every interaction at home is rewarded; keep treats out and treat her and praise her whenever she is not in the closet.

My dog is acting strange and hiding. Is it stress or a medical issue?

If she’s eating/drinking, pooping normally and does not seem to be limping or painful when touched around her legs or belly….it is most likely stress. Possibly there was a super loud noise/siren/crash etc. that scared her. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. With the symptoms that you are describing, I would strongly suggest having a veterinarian examine her. The symptoms you are describing can be caused by many things and would be best to have a veterinarian perform Diagnostics to rule out different causes. I would be concerned about a foreign body obstruction, systemic disease or infection, or trauma-related. The veterinarian can then make the most appropriate Diagnostic and treatment recommendations based on the physical examination. I hope this helps! Why is my dog hiding under the table? Is she sick or scared?

It could be that something scared Roxie, or she may be ill. Without any further symptoms, I can't say for sure what is causing her to hide under the table, but I would let her be for now. She will come out when she is ready, but if she continues to hide there for a couple of hours, when I would try to tempt her out with some treats or boiled white meat chicken (no bones). You can take her into the vet if you are concerned she is ill.

Why is my dog scared, hiding, won't leave room, and won't eat?

Hi, sorry you are having this problem with Chiquita. Sometimes dogs exhibiting this behavior are in some kind of pain. the not eating is concerning that she may have a health issue as well. I would take her to the vet and have a check up to make sure nothing is wrong with her, If she is healthy, you can try using treats to coax her out of your room. It is possible something happened to her that scared her or caused her pain and it will take some time for her to get over it. Be gentle and patient and go slow with her to show her that there is nothing to be afraid of. If you bring her food to her and she won't eat, she will need to see a vet. Good luck, I hope this help!

Why did my playful dog suddenly get scared and hide? How to help?

This sounds like something scared her. Think back to see if you can determine the cause of her anxiety. Then you’ll be able to work on changing this behavior. When training anxious dogs I usually have them on an anti anxiety supplement like Solliquin, or another brand that they sell at PetCo. That helps them relax and makes them easier to train. Always praise good behavior and give treats to build her confidence. That will help her trust you and be more relaxed in stressful situations. My dog is shaking and hiding after vacation. Is it separation anxiety?

Hi. Poor Colby. It definitely sounds like something is wrong, she may not feel well, have pain somewhere, not reacting to stress well, and much more. I'd get her checked out tomorrow. They will do an exam make sure everything is ok on outside. I would have them check her anal glands as well. Sometimes when that are full, it can make them act very odd. If the exam and anal glands are normal, then lab work and x-rays would be next, hope she feels better soon.
