My dog is acting strange and hiding. Is it stress or a medical issue?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 5 years and 9 months old | 50 lbs

My 5 year old pit mix has been acting different since yesterday afternoon. She was fine all day which she’s a very happy active dog but we left the house for a few hours and when we came home she acted strange. Shaking, lip licking, ears laid back, wide eyes, won’t jump on bed or couch, hiding under bed all night. No vomiting or diarrhea and is eating drinking and has had a bm. Is this stress or a medical issue? I’m so worried for her.

If she’s eating/drinking, pooping normally and does not seem to be limping or painful when touched around her legs or belly….it is most likely stress. Possibly there was a super loud noise/siren/crash etc. that scared her. Vetriscience composure chews (available without a prescription on Chewy.com) can help with stress, including separation anxiety stress/firework stress, etc. Hope she feels better soon!
