My dog suddenly started shaking for 30 minutes, what should I do?

Sudden shaking is usually due to pain, possibly from an internal pain, for example the GI tract. if he stopped for now, you don't have to take him to the vet, just monitor him. if it starts again you will need to have it checked by your vet.

Trembling and shaking could indicate pain and/or anxiety. Your dog may need veterinary attention since this is an abrupt change in his behavior. If you are concerned enough to ask the question, it's worth getting him checked to find out what is wrong and how to treat it.

The fact that he is having tremors and exhibiting strange behavior is a little concerning. The best thing would be to have your veterinarian do a physical exam to determine if there is a problem. Your vet can run the lab work and take x-rays, if needed, to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. He could have an neurological problem, infection, metabolic/endocrine disease, gastrointestinal issue, etc.

Poor Champ, it sounds like he is either very sore or very anxious and may have suffered an injury. If this persists longer than 12hours or he develops any other signs you should have him checked by your vet to identify the cause

Hmm. That is odd. With no other symptoms besides the shaking, it is hard to say for sure. Shaking can be a sign of pain, neurological or an acid/base imbalance. I would continue monitor him for the next 12 hrs to see if this behavior continues. If it does then the next best step is to get some baseline bloodwork to look for underlying issues. You can also feel around to see if Snickers is painful in any particular area. That can help the vet focus on that one area to look for underlying causes. At this age most dogs also have arthritis, so it is a good idea to get Snickers on a daily joint supplement regardless. My top recommendations here for over the counter products is Dasuquin or Cosequin, and for veterinary prescription products it is Rejuvenate. These can be symptoms of many serious medical issues, anxiety, fear, pain, neurologic disease, infection, etc. I would recommend that you have him checked out by a vet to see what could be going on. After a thorough physical exam and discussion of his recent history, the vet may recommend diagnostics, such as blood work, x-rays, ultrasound, etc. to diagnose the cause.

Shaking is often a sign of pain. Check BJ over to make sure he's not injured. Please don't give him human pain medication. It doesn't sound like the shaking is from the bug you saw and giving a bath should have gotten rid of it. If all looks normal and he's eating and drinking then keep him quiet and hopefully he'll be back to normal soon. If he continues to shake and he's not eating or feeling well definitely take him to your veterinarian right away.

Poor Grace! If you can't find an obvious cause for anxiety, it's best to have her checked out for pain as pain can make pets behavior this way as well. Pain can be in many forms including back pain, pain from the pancreas or bladder pain. Since she can't talk and tell you why she is acting this way, it's best to play it safe. Try to keep her quiet and keep the house quiet and non-stimulating and pay close attention to her eating/drinking/bathroom habits until you get her in for her exam.
