Why is my dog suddenly scared and trembling for no apparent reason?

WIthout actually seeing the behavior it is difficult to say exactly what is going on with her. I would recommend taking a video of this behavior and making an appointment with your veterinarian to have them view the video and determine if this is something to be concerned about. If only Jessie could talk! This type of behavior could be related to something like anxiety or to pain/discomfort. I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian who will check for evidence of pain on the physical exam. They may also check a urine sample or the anal glands as well. Idiopathic head tremors is a condition that has been noted in several breeds but can occur in any breed. There is no known cause for the tremors and the disease is called idiopathic for this reason. I would monitor for now and if these tremors increase in frequency or intensity, I would recommend having Lacey examined by a veterinarian for further testing and to discuss the potential causes based on the physical examination. It can be from muscle or joint pain or perhaps she is experiencing anxiety. Thunderstorms and fireworks are big causes for anxiety this time of year. Since this is a behavior without appropriate context (like thunderstorms), I would recommend having Lily examined by a vet. These types of behaviors can be similar to pain responses, difficulty breathing, heart arrhythmia, pre-seizure activity, etc. The vet will do a thorough exam and discuss Lily's relevant medical history to determine if additional diagnostics are necessary.

Any abrupt behavioral change is a good excuse to get him in to see your vet. He may be starting to develop a medical condition that should be investigated but it's so early that the only symptom he is displaying is this strange behavior. There may be something happening periodically that is making him uncomfortable of the feeling comes and goes, but either way, it should be looked into by your vet.
