My dog is suddenly clingy and restless. Should I take her to vet?

In order to get a better idea of what is going on, I would recommend Sophi see her veterinarian very soon. Your vet will do an exam to help pinpoint the issue. Your may recommend diagnostic testing such as blood work or x-rays to further evaluate her so they can help her feel better soon.

Hello, and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Your description sounds most suspicious of generalized anxiety. There may have been something that spooked your dog recently to cause the behavior change, making him want to be near you all the time and causing him to seek reassurance. However, given his breed, it's also possible that he's just got too much pent-up energy - many high energy breeds can develop either anxiety or boredom if they aren't given an outlet for their energy and a way to tire themselves out. I recommend making sure your dog has a way to RUN his energy off daily. (with his breed and age, a walk probably won't cut it). You can take him running, or if he's ball motivated, throwing a ball is a great option to get him running. Fenced in dog parks are good options too. If tiring him out doesn't help reduce his clingy behaviors, I recommend consulting your vet and having them do a physical exam and likely some screening bloodwork. Sometimes panting, whining, and being generally clingy are the dog's way of telling us that something's not right, which can be the first sign of a disease or health problem. I hope this helps!

Any abrupt change in behavior without a known cause should be investigated by your vet as soon as possible. Sometimes this is the only sign we get of a medical condition. The behavior could be due to feeling ill, being in pain or may be because of a developing neurological condition. Your vet will do an exam, labwork and possibly some diagnostic imaging, x-rays or ultrasound to determine the cause for your pet's change in behavior and, based on the results, will be better able to advise you on treatment options.

If this is unusual behavior for your dog I would be concerned that there's something wrong. Shaking and lethargy can be indicative of pain, anxiety or that the pet just isn't feeling well. I would recommend that you take her to be seen by your regular veterinarian. A thorough examination will help determine what may be wrong and how to make her feel better

Poor girl. I am unsure if she is spayed or not, but if she isn't she could have an infected uterus (pyometra), overheated, a current tick borne disease (i.e. Ehrlichia is a possible cause if she was currently re-infected), etc. Skin infections very rarely will cause a systemic increase in body temperature, so this is likely not the cause. I am sorry there are no vets open right now, but it is good that she i still eating well and relatively alert. I would make a point to get her seen as soon as the vet opens for some bloodwork analysis to start. She may need additional tests to put all the pieces together and figure out what exactly is going on internally. Best wishes with Chichi and I hope she feels better soon. Take care.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Ivory! There are many causes for Ivory's symptoms. Crying and acting restless is usually a sign of pain. It could be orthopedic pain meaning her joints or a legs hurt or her back hurts. Or her stomach could hurt from gas or cramping. It is good that her gums are pink! If Ivory is trying to vomit and nothing is coming up or her belly looks distended then that is an immediate emergency and she should go to the Vet ASAP. You could take her temperature rectally with a digital thermometer if you want to see if she has a fever. Anything over 102.5 is likely a fever. If her symptoms aren't improved or she gets worse I recommend you take her to your vet this morning. Good luck!
