Why is my dog suddenly having whole body spasms? What should I do?

If she is unvaccinated for distemper, I would potentially consider this as a possibility but in older animals, distemper is not commonly seen. She may be uncomfortable from something (painful) or an infection / systemic disease. If adjusting the temperature to keep her warm does not help, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. This behavior you mentioned could be many things- it could be spinal pain, focal seizures, or another neurological condition. I would highly recommend Ace see his veterinarian for an exam soon. You may also want to capture a video of these episodes on your phone to show to your veterinarian as this may help aide in a diagnosis.

Based on what you are describing I would be very concerned that Scooter is having seizure-like episodes. I would recommend taking a video of the incident if possible and showing it to your veterinarian. It is difficult to know how concerning this is. The main concern would be pain causing him to tense up the way he did. Pain can come in the form of a pinched nerve, a bad back or a compressed disc. Less common sources of pain would be pancreatic or intestinal pain. Is there a potential that he had a seizure? I recommend to play it safe and have him examined by his veterinarian. The doctor will check him for back or neck issues as well as palpate his abdomen. This is the best way to make sure he is comfortable. I hope this helps.

Hi there and than you for using Pet Coach to address your concern. The head tremors could be a form of seizures, pain, muscle related or idiopathic. Idiopathic head tremors is a condition that has been noted in several breeds but can occur in any breed. There is no known cause for the tremors and the disease is called idiopathic for this reason. I would monitor for now and if these tremors increase in frequency or intensity, I would recommend having Lacey examined by a veterinarian for further testing and to discuss the potential causes based on the physical examination. Hello. This sounds very suspicious of a seizure. The average age of onset of seizure activity for epileptic dogs is from 2-4 years of age. Since this is a first time occurrence...or the first that you have witnessed....you may have to wait and see if it happens again. It may help your veterinarian if you can video the episode if it happens again. It is always a good idea to have your veterinarian examine her to make sure there are no other problems and discuss the possibility of seizures. Hi there. So sorry that Kage is having this issue. Based on your description it sounds like seizure activity or a pain response (orthopedic pain like arthritis). I suggest you video an episode if it happens again so you can show your vet. Did the vet just examine him or was any testing done? If no blood testing was done that should be the next step. If the blood testing is normal then your vet can prescribe an anti-seizure medication or pain medication (depending on what they think after seeing the video) that will likely help. Hope this helps.
